Looking for some good suggestions on a good holster for my new P226? Would want something that could be used for IDPA also.

I suspect two of the more popular IDPA holsters are the

Blade-Tech SRB http://shop.blade-tech.com/index.php?cPath=1_23_24

Comp-Tac International http://www.comp-tac.com/competition-holsters/international-holster-10241

I believe both Blade-Tech and Comp-Tac offer "competition packs" or some such name that includes a holster, mag pouch, and possibly a belt, if that is something you are interested in.

Neither are really great concealment holsters, but are concealable enough for IDPA and are competition fast. There are lots of other holsters that conceal better, but are probably not as fast.

Here is an older IDPA holster chart that may be useful http://www.idpa.com/blog/?tag=/Uncle+Mikes

Besides the Blade Tech OWB holster linked in Post #2, also look at their newer Black Ice holster, in either case, you should add the Sting Ray belt attachment to stabilize it on the belt

Budget, choices, styles.....

There have been a few great holster firms listed already.
If match use or target shooting is the main purpose, Id check Blade-tech, Safariland, Blackhawk, Galco, Tulster, Don Hume, Hogue Store.
A polymer or Kydex model should meet your needs.

I read that some Comp Tacs for P226R were not compatible with the P226 MK25. Has anybody else heard or experienced this?

I haven't experienced it, but the MK25 has a different rail than the P226. They would most likely need different holsters, especially kydex holsters.

Edit to add: Comp-Tac lists the MK25 for the International, which is their newer holster (newer than the Belt holster), but not for the Belt Holster. Comp-Tac is specific about what holster works for what guns. They are very closely molded to the gun they are designed to fit. They used to even post a note (it still may be there, but their website is updated and I didn't look) saying their holsters for Gen 3 G34/G35 guns would not work with the Gen 4 G34/G35 guns. Those are much closer than the railed P226 and the MK25.
