Today I bought a Savage Mark 2 FV SR, I am on a tight budget and wonder what scopes are out there that doesn't cost much? I can't put much on one as I am on a fixed income and saved several months to get the gun. Thanks.

My advice would be ebay.
Athlon
Burris
Bushnell
Vortex

All offer lower end models that are actually quite good scopes. All offer lifetime unlimited warranties. I personally have a Burris Fullfield, 2 Athlon Argos and would buy them again.

I'd look for a used Japanese made Tasco

Ya know, it's really wild to think about how much things have changed in the last 20yrs. Even the Japanese Tasco's, old enough now to have dried seals and moisture infiltration, are easily matched by any of a dozen contract importer brands. Certainly, there was a long while during which the "Japanese Tasco" was the go-to low budget option, or a Bushnell Banner, and of course, someone would bring up a used Vari-X II, but man, times have changed a LOT. Maybe most importantly, and pertinent to a "heavy barreled" 22LR like the OP is driving, there are very affordable options with greatly enhanced features over the limited options which existed when "japanese Tasco" was still the relevant choice. And of course, all of the old Tasco warranties have been washed away with ownership changes, which was never actually very good compared to the market standard of current production models (lifetime, no questions asked).

Today, yeah, unless I could really only swing $50-100 for a used Tasco, eh, I'd probably be more realistic about choosing a different hobby instead of limiting myself to that standard of optic. But there are a handful of great, low cost optics from Athlon, Arken, Vortex, and others which have enhanced features befitting a heavy barreled 22LR plinker and surprisingly clear glass and good coatings. Vortex Venom and Strike Eagle FFP's, Arken EP5, and Athlon Helos BTR 2 are a few which I've purchased for $300-400 and have been very happy with.

I have three 30+ year old Japanese Tascos in use. No problems with dried seals nor moisture. All hold zero year after year. The optical clarity is good enough for my uses. For the OPs budget pinker, I would pick the 4-16 I have on hand. I gave a whopping 50 bucks for it several years ago and used it on a centerfire varmint gun. Never had an issue.

If you have a look at eBay those lowly Japanese Tascos sure do bring good money now. I wouldn't pay what people pay for them. However, when I stumble on a nice one for a low price, I'll bring it home.

I am sure there are plenty of new budget scopes on the market that would work for the OP. I simply do not know all the good from the bad.

Had a center point 4-16 on a custom ruger 10/22 for years, not the best but it did work as needed, don't think I'd trust it on anything more then a 22mag and not for hunting. But on the range shooting 22lr di just fine for the ~$60.

I think

Vortex Optics Viper PST Gen II 5-25×50 FFP

is a solid find IMO
On a 22LR?

This being about a $240 gun, which the OP spent "several months" saving for, I'm going to guess that "much" is anything more than about $100.
A Bushnell Banner 3-9 would be decent in the sub-$100 range.
A little splurge, maybe a Burris Fullfield II in 3-9 for maybe $150

Personally I would go with a Sightron or Bushnell Banner. I have a Bushnell Banner that came with my rifle as a package. It is a Savage 110 in 30-06 and all these years still works. That was purchased 40 years ago with rifle for $175. @kmw1954 listed all the scopes I would buy too if on a strict budget.

I like the Hawke rimfire scopes and have several now. This is their 2-7xAO.

The 3-9x with parallax set at 50yds. Both have illuminated reticles. I also got a 4-12x that is as of yet unmounted. Might've had a plan for it when I bought it but I'll be damned if I remember what it was.

I had an old 4x Bushnell Sportview that would have been perfect. It was on my 12 gauge slug gun and held zero perfectly. I would have given to you but it’s already gone. I have an unused scope just laying in my safe but it wouldn’t be suitable for your needs.

Anyway, hope you find something suitable.

I have a couple of these, and they work great. Even on heavy kickers like my spring piston air rifle. On sale now for less than $50.00

Sorry I haven't been on, family emergency, My budget is around $100 or less would be better but could be stretched a few dollars more. I will be using the gun to hunt squirrels and other small game. Thanks

Honestly on a .22…on a budget, Burris Droptine rimfire 3-9x40.

For a few more bucks, Vortex Diamondback rimfire 2-7.
