Good Riddance to Dick's

The news story is about the Dicks in Montgomery, AL along Hwy 85. I have been there twice. They sell no guns or ammo. I have been to one other Dicks in AL, they do not sell any shooting goods either.

Yeah, if you’re going to be an anti gun sporting goods store in AL, the doors want be open to long. Sporting goods in AL is hunting, shooting, & fishing. They may be able to pull it off in some places, possibly in Birmingham but I really even doubt that long term. They really don’t know their customers in AL, or I should say their former customers.
I’ve never been in a Dicks, a pattern I think I’ll keep up.

They could be giving away moon pies and lap dances and I would still drive on by, such is my ire with them.

When they pulled their woke stunt I was living down in Baytown, TX, fishing out of Texas City and Galveston 5 days out of 7. I used to spend $10K a year easily in there on fishing stuff and other supplies. Half again as much or more on firearms/ammo. I guess they sell enough overpriced clothes to the mid and upper class drones here in the Houston area to make up for it. Bless their hearts, as my grandma would say.

You can hope all you want but Dick's is doing great, financially. All of our boycotting has done little permanent harm to the business overall.

They stopped selling a lot of guns in 2020, but financially have done very well over all and their projected position looks very good.

All 2020 did to them was slow their financial growth like a little tiny speedbump. Dropping of firearms has actually seemed to improve their position overall.

Their spread of stores has largely leveled off, but they are making more money now with the stores they have than they have done previously.

I used to spend a lot of money at Dick’s on camping, hiking, and kayaking stuff, and athletic equipment. But I haven’t darkened the door of a Dick’s even once since they launched their gun control jihad.

Dick’s can sell their outdoor and hunting gear to the Wall Street/college faculty lounge crowd they now cater to instead, because they certainly won’t be selling it to me.

Maybe so, but I for one feel better when my dollars aren't knowingly being used against me. Haven't set foot in one since they started lobbying to have the government take away what I paid them for.

they had some of the best Fishing gear, North Face jackets, cool flannel, … but with all things coorp, board members dictate $$$$

Oh, I agree completely. I don't want to spend my money with a company like that either. The calls of years past to drive them out of business through boycotting, however, was just a lot of smoke and noise as it is for virtually all such boycotts. Maybe if Dick's did a huge amount of gun sales would said boycott have worked, but it was only a small fraction of their revenue stream and probably not the most profitable, either.

Now, if we can have 50, 100, or more stores shutting down without the whole economy crashing (as other gun-friendly stores would be closing well), that would be something to really celebrate.

I ventured into the local store twice.
First time, when they opened. Not impressed. Over-priced and ignorant, unhelpful sales staff.
Second time, last August. They had a $2 off on Dove&Quail shotgun shells. They stated their "best price guarantee."

I went to Academy and checked prices. Not much available. Go to Dick's. Shells were $10.99. Less $2 coupon, $8.99. Academy was $7.99. Asked Mgr about guarantee. He suggested I shop at Academy. Haven't and won't be back.

My family and I have not done any business with them since.
Same here. When they bought what had been a very gun friendly corporation in Galyan's (I must have bought 3 or 4 rifles at Galyan's), and immediately removed the entire gun section, I knew that was not the place to spend any money for anything.

I won't shop at the aptly named sporting goods store. I broke my belt about a year ago and it pained me to do it but I had to go in and buy a belt even though I hate giving them my business. I went in there half a dozen times and I'm not really a fussy guy but I ont stand for nonsense for very long. I have been awkwardly monitored in the aisle, had a guy behind the gun counter make a big to do about unlocking the gun rack to show me an R700 because it was 15 mins before closing and a couple other irritating adventures in their store......

Not worth it. Not to mention outside of guns, ammo and gear their clothing is waaaay out of line. $24.99 for what is essentially a white tee with a Nike swoosh, same with carhartt, Under Armor, etc.....

Really? Dick's is Anti modern sporting rifle. They declared ARs "weapons of war", broke their contracts with AR manufacturers, removed all Evil Black Rifles from inventory, and actively worked to get an "Assault Rifle Ban" imposed across the country.

My family and I have not done any business with them since.
Don't forget how they screwed their investors by destroying their existing inventory..... Oh, wait, I forgot, they hypocritically tried to sell if off through a subsidiary.

The dicks in my area don't sell guns and ammo, but it's not a passive thing. The dicks are radically anti-gun.

It’s weird. The dicks in the liberal county next door stopped selling guns, the one in my county which is more red still does.

I live in a blue state and a county that has historically shifted between red and blue, but has been blue since the Obama years. Demographics have changed a lot. There are more dicks and less guns.
