30 years ago I had a G17. Tried to like it, but never really did. Same complaints as many: trigger dingus and trigger pinched my finger between them and the trigger guard, trigger guard hammered my middle finger knuckle, and the blockly grip bore hard on the nerve on the inside of the strong hand thumb. So I got rid of it. And shortly thereafter got a G19-3. Same issues but I thought I needed one...and eventually traded it for a Gen 5. All the same stuff, but I needed to have a Glock, at least one.

Then the other day I was in my LGS and he had a barely used M&P9 2.0 full size (with a 4.25' barrel, it isn't much bigger than a G19 at all) . I've never handled an M&P, because, well plastic fantastics just don't get my blood moving much. But for some reason I asked to see the M&P, handled it for 5 minutes (or 3) and bought it on the spot. Yesterday, I put 100 rounds through it, and frankly, its a revelation. There is simply nothing about the M&P that doesn't work better for me than a Glock. I'd swear the recoil is reduced by 30%. Recoil revovery is significantly quicker, the trigger is at least a good, and my strong hand thumb doesn't ride the slide lock. And most of all, it doesn't hurt my hand anywhere. There is alot to be said for a gun that fits ones hand properly.

And today, I made a deal with a buddy's kid to unload the G19, just need to do the paperwork. So yes, I'm a slow learner...but at least it seems I can still learn! The LGS also has a lightly used M&P45. I might have to go look at that one too.

Had an ealy production Glock17 that I never could get comfortable with, probably due to my smaller size hand and the overall ergonomics of the gun itself. Sold it a couple of years ago when I found out how much older Gen 1 Glocks were selling for! Took the money and bought two Glocks (G43X and G48) which fit my hand perfectly and performed beautifully!

I still have the G17 I bought 30 years ago as well, will never get rid of it...but no longer shoot it. I do not place sentimental value on many guns, but it is the first one I ever bought and will never let it go. It has a nice place in the safe as I have switched over for the most part to the best guns made...1911s and 2011s.

Sounds similar to my experience with a G19 and a S&W Shield. There’s certainly nothing wrong with Glocks, but Shield ergonomics are MUCH better for me than Glocks. And my Shields have run every bit as reliably as my G19. (Granted, my sample size on Glocks is about 3 that I have ever shot.)

Yep! Same here! If Glock would just ditch the plastic magazine (that was a bad idea when it started and is still a bad idea now), it could be so much narrower and less chunky/blocky.

Good purchase.

I've tried to like Glocks as well, and still own a G19.3 for shooting in GSSF matches. Some people like the squarish grip but I'm not a fan. I also get fatigued much faster when shooting one.

I have a hard time choosing between my G43 and M&P9 Shield. The Shield fits my grip better and is more comfortable, but I'm faster at acquiring the target with the G43. Guess what I choose to carry vs shoot paper...

The M&P series fit me much better than Glocks as well. I also like the Springfield Armory Hellcat Pro

The Glock brick like grip (not the angle) was always a turn off for me and I was labeled a Glock basher because of it. Then I learned about polymer and Dremels.......... My three LEO Glock trade ins now fit my hands much better however they are still not my favorites. My first "Glock/VP9" was my SAR 9 and it's still the most ergonomically comfortable of all my pistols.

Some wrenche handles are thin and cut into your hand (Snap-On) . Some are well rounded (Proto) but they sell plenty of both. You can't have just one.
What affects competition people dosent translate to occasional users necessarily. So keep that in mind new buyers.

Glock mags aren't plastic. They are metal with plastic over it. Keeps them from rusting. Take a magnet to one. Of all my glock only the 22lr has a plastic mag. My all steel Beretta/sig mags are no narrower/less clunky than the Glock in the same cartridge. And i have has to care for rust on them. I've seen people run over glock mags with a vehicle back in the "torture test" days of stupidity. They are very tough and reliable mags. You don't see ruger and Smith and others making their brand guns to take Glock mags because Glock mags were a huge mistake. Mags are less clunky than steel AR mags too.

USP mags are entirely plastic and everyone brags how over built they are.

The dongle sucks but to have a gun with no safety and be drop safe, it's pretty much what you have to have. I don't like it on Glock. I don't like it on rifles.. I just don't like it.

My least favorite thing about Glock is the "perfection" BS. If it was so perfect then why does it change every 5 years.

When I picked up my first Glock I put it back on the counter and told the salesman "This isn't for me". When I picked up my first full sized M&P I took it home with me.
Me too

Then I shot the M&P and that trigger caused it to be one of about 3 guns i ever got rid of. The gen 1 M&P trigger is legendary....and not in any good sort of way.

I hit the trigger jackpot with mine. It was fairly decent. Not 1911 decent but still good for a striker gun of that era. I got to try it before buying so no surprise when I got it home.

I too tried Glock before I handled a slightly used 2.0 M&P on a whim. It came home with me. I like everything about it compared to the Glocks I handled. I now have two identical 2.0 9mm compacts.
