Got a deal today.

I've been looking for a shotgun for my daughter. She's 5'2", 120 pounds. Dicks had the Maverick 88 20 ga. youth for 169.00 plus tax for Black Friday. Nice shotgun. It has the butt stock spacers, 22" vent rib barrel with a Mod choke. Total length is the same as the 12ga HD model. Should work well for HD or field. Certainly couldn't beat the price.

I'm not doubting you... but I'm confused. Maybe someone can help me understand.


According to the Mossberg/Maverick site:

39.75 is the OL of the 20 ga gun you mentioned - 13" LOP 22" barrel
39.5 is the OL of the 12 ga Security model - 14" LOP 18.5" barrel


So the 20 ga has a barrel that is 3.5" longer and a 1" shorter LOP and its only .25" OL longer...?


Where did the other 2.25" go??????

Man you got me scratching my head. The Youth comes with 2 spacers that probably are 1" or so each. I think if you add those 2 spacers you get a total of 13" LOP. The gun as it comes without the spacers installed is probably the publishes OAL. And thinking about it I think the 20Ga receiver is smaller that the 12GA. Either way she'll love it. I wish I had the extra cash to pick up a Xtra one. Nice compact shotgun.

You might be right about the published OAL being with outhe the spacers.

I assumed the 20 and 12 receivers would be the same length since im also assuming they both will shoot 3" rounds.

Maybe we can both measure and compare receiver lengths?

Questions...
Does it shoot 3" rounds ? (I don't buy 3" but interested if it can)

Can you shoot slugs thru the fixed mod choke?

My wife has the box wrapped already so I can't measure the receiver. But It didn't seem as large as my sons M500 12ga when I was handling it. It takes 3" shells. She won't be shooting any of those though. It came with a modified choke tube installed but you can use any other Mossberg tube you want. Her brother is getting a Full and Imp Cyl tube for her. So she can shoot shot, slugs or buckshot.
