I purchased my first AR-15 today after months of research and debate. I settled on a Spike's Tactical 16" M4 LE upper paired with a Spike's Tactical Standard lower w/ M4 stock. So far I've added/purchased two PMAGs, an MOE Handguard, and a Magpul MBUS rear sight. I also bought a Tapco front sight adjustment tool, Tapco cleaning kit, and a soft case. Plans for the future are simple; I'd like to add a single-point sling, possibly a vertical fore grip, and eventually some type of optic although I want to become proficient with the irons before going down that road. Thanks for checking it out guys, I'm excited and had to share!

Good job on doing your research first, and buying a quality rifle.

My only advice on slings is to go with a 2 point / 1 point convertible, or get a 2 point & add the IWC 2 to 1 point triglide In my experience there are times when you want a single point for rapid transitions, and there are times when you need a 2 point sling for more secure carry. The MOE handguards give you plenty of mounting options to play with.

Congrats! I have a Spikes M4 LE upper (with Spikes BAR rail), and reliability has been 100%. You've got a quality AR that will last you many years. As far as slings go, after a LOT of research, I went with a VCAS 2-point sling, and have been very pleased. One point slings just seemed kind of pointless (really only good for retention - not much else).

I think the Magpul MS2 is the best sling out there right now. The MS3 should be coming out any year now. Gear Sector has a good sling as well. But I wish the HK adapter was shorter. I wouldn't use a Gear Sector sling with any rifle barrel longer than 16". 14.5 would be fine. 16" is pushing it unless you use the adjustable adapter and a web loop type mount.

I use a MI ambi HK mount that slides over the buffer tube and clamps on and a Gear Sector sling with a HK adapter. I'm waiting for the MS3.

spike tactical is a good company. i have build a few for my friends and they love it. i even build my firt AR on a spike lower, you'll be good for a looong time

ARs have become the Barbie Dolls of guns. Buy the gun and then go broke loading it up with accessories.

It is always great to finally make that purchase.

I was just with my family back in Kentucky. My cousin brought out a pre-ban Colt and a new Colt LE model.

He had installed an ACOG on one and an Aimpoint Red Dot on the other. I helped him and his wife get them sighted in. Since I have a new black rifle and have no idea which optic to use I think he bought them more for me to see than really for him.

Both were great and easy to sight in, once we stopped turning the wrong dial! :banghead:

Since I had only used hunting scopes before this was all new to me.

Both were great, but for the way I want to use my rifle, the red dot seems to be the right choice.

Of course with quick release mounts and some extra savings one could have both!:)

Thanks for the advice on slings fellas!

SaxonPig - what part of my post indicated to you that I would "go broke loading it up with accessories"? I feel like my plans are pretty minimalist with nothing being put on the rifle that doesn't have a specific, real-world purpose.

sirgilligan - That's one heck of a friend, those sights aren't cheap!! Do you remember which Aimpoint he had? Those are both most likely more than I want to spend on an optic but I suppose I should't ever say never!

Nice looking AR and great pick! I recently bought my first AR about 5 months ago. It's a STAG Model 2L and I'm loving it so far. I still have yet to really see how it groups... i've just been having too much fun with it.

Have you looked at the Aimpoint PRO? They can be had for right at 400 bucks with a mount. By far the best deal in optics going on right now.

Beware . . . . these evil black rifles have a habit of multiplying as well as growing myriad accessories.

No cure has been found yet

No 12-step program is available as of time of going to press.

A couple of months ago I got my first black rifle. I saw a Mossberg 4X4 on gunbroker, it looked cool and it was black so I said about time. That coming from a guy with a safe full of Winchester Lever actions.

My kids are proud of me.

I know the feeling, I've had an S-EBR for awhile (Semi-Evil Black Rifle, had to be CT neutered :barf: )

However, my local shop actually has a preban instock, that I couldn't fully afford, but they do layaways, and I'm not missing my chance...

Now, I'm planning what type of stock, grips (Leaning towards the Magpul MOE foregrip, and ACS stock), whether or not I want to SBR it for even more evilness (Is that even a word?) and what else I want to add on to it... I think part of my problem is just how long I was basically told "No!" by the state...might also be why my other AR has a laser, rail, vert foregrip, 3 point sling, and a bipod on it, and is the ONLY gun I've done anything other than try to restore missing parts on.

That all aside, congrats on the purchase, and enjoy your new rifle.

Congrats and looking good. Spikes be good gear.

I just got my first EBR a few months ago. Research was definitely interesting and enjoyable. I am looking into another (flat top) upper. then some glass.

It's an addiction from which there is no cure, except running completely out of money.

Welcome to the club!

Now go shoot it!
