I got an offer to buy a P-7. In mint condition. Anybody NOT hate this gun? All my the guys in my unit almost say its useless. Except top.

Top says. It is a good gun, but I would need to practice with it alone if I carried it. So HR. Whats your take. I think it is neat. aaaaand welll made..... Thanks. I wont spend the $800 dlooers until I get feedback from the HR big brains.

It's only good if you like extremely safe, extremely reliable, extremely accurate, ambidextrous, steel-framed, compact sized with good sight radius and HK name. Otherwise it's pretty worthless.

Mine is a 20 year old police duty P7M8 and it's one of the guns I've never had jam.

HK P7s are fine pistols, and the P7M8 is probably the best one, overall. I have two P7M8s and two P7 PSPs (an earlier version with a few differences from the P7M8), shown in the photo below. I also have a P7M13, P7M10, and P7K3 (with all three calibers).

Whether you buy it or not, you should definitely spend less time with the other guys in your unit and more time with Top since he seems to have a better handle on things....;)

Sorry, I can't do a circular mag thing around numerous P7s since I only own one with 6 mags.....but that is a 100 percent cotton terry cloth towel underneath....

aaahhh!!! I love those guns! Ever since I handled one in a gun store, I want one BAD... I have come to the realization though, that I will have to be a rich man before I can afford one... :(

Those pictures are beautiful though. You guys are torturing me...

Lunde,

That P7M8 Rising Sun pic is simply evil. Subliminally evil. No wonder mags are scarce.....

Pain pills

Sorry about my bad spelling. I had back surgery five days ago and I am drugged up.

the pics are great. And your right. My top is a together guy. I have worked for him for three years. He knows his Sh..

I will take a pic and put it up when I buy it. I will let the guys shoot it. then they can tell me how useless it is. Pics in two weeks. Thanks Hr

Serpico was right on the money.

I don't know how many times I've heard that if you are going to carry a P7, carry only a P7. If asked why, they say: "Because if you carry something else, then go back to the P7, you'll need it and it won't shoot because you forgot to cock it".

Nonsense.
I don't know how those guys hold a pistol, but I have to squeeze my hand to make a grip. IF you forget, and squeeze hard enough to hold the thing, the frontstrap moves, giving you a reminder. I don't know how you can't squeeze it.

Now, maybe if you have never shot one, and you feel the frontstrap move, you won't know that it's supposed to, but that's all I can think of.

I do know of one case, that happened in a gunshop that I've been in several times, that the squeeze-cocker SAVED the owner. The shop owner was in the process of being robbed, somehow they got his P7, knelt him down in the bathroom to let him have it, but they couldn't make it shoot. He shot them with a revolver hidden in the bathroom.
Maybe it's hard to squeeze if you hold it sideways!

You'll hear all kinds of negative stories from people about them. But when pressed on their experience with P7s, you'll find they have none. Well, none beyond the gunshop.

I've had one for almost a year, and love it. It's accurate, shoots fast, points well, carries easy, and always works. I'm a dedicated Browning HiPower nut, but find that I mostly carry the P7 anymore. The thing shoots itself.

There are drawbacks, like any gun, but they don't amount to much.
They get hot forward and above the trigger. But it takes around 50 shots, so it's not a problem outside of a long range session. You just let it cool a little bit. Shoot something else for a few minutes to remind you how good the P7 is.

If you haven't already found it, do a search for the Park Cities Tactical Cult of The P7 Forum. There's a wealth of info.
All unbiased, of course.

Barry in IN is correct.

If you must only carry a P7 if you carry a P7, you do not know how to grasp a pistol. Hence, anyone who suggests that is saying that they do not know how to grasp a pistol (or they have not used a P7 and are simply repeating what they heard). A reasonable grip WILL squeeze cock it. And if you put your finger in the trigger when you reholster, well, you need some basic training instead of a warning to avoid the P7.

But do people put their finger in the trigger at the wrong time? Yes -- I see this all of the time. Even with motivated people. It is just a form-error I have never had.

rsilvers- thanks.

I thought of another supposed negative.
People say they are unreliable because their method of operation dirtys up the gun. Well, yeah, after about 150 rounds without cleaning you might notice a little difference- if you really look for it. It probably takes a lot more than that to make it fail.

If someone has one fail due to being THAT dirty, they got what they deserve.

The same system that makes it so fast and easy to shoot, and gives it the tiny amount of muzzle flip, is what dirtys up the gun. It's a good trade off.

biggest mistake I ever made was selling my psp.I thought it was a bit too heavy for IWB carry. I still haven't found anything I like nearly as much:cuss:

*oogles Lunde's P7 collection*

In the words of Largo, from Megatokyo... "Can I be your monkey boy?"

And, pertaining to P7's in general, and in the words of my brother, "I want three. Right now."

If only P7's weren't so damnably expensive...

Dude, click on Dr. Lunde's wallpaper link. I thought I died and went to Heaven.

I emailed Dr. Lunde about a P7M8 I'm thinking of buying, and he bent over backwards trying to help me. What a class guy. An asset to THR, that's for sure.

:)
