Got the KA-1230's in finally

    Picked 'em up a couple days ago, we've been waiting on these for awhile. This batch of them was for the M44, M91, and SKS. We installed one on my SKS Paratrooper so we could get a little more test footage and take some step-by-step pics of the install procedure. We'll have more footage as time permits, we've been collecting a little footage here and there, but we need to spend a whole day or weekend recording and editing pics/video. The brake/suppressor worked really well on the SKS, that paratrooper tend to blow some pretty good fireballs and I couldn't get much flash (if any) during the test-fire. Most of our testing with the KA-1230 was on Mosin-Nagant rifles since they would be tougher to cut flash and recoil on. Needless to say, it worked just as impressively on the lower-powered SKS carbine and tamed the kick and flash substantially. The KA-T004 jig worked well but I found out that we had been supplied less-than-optimal drill bits which caused some headache. The current jig is an early production version and will be improved (if needed) as we get feedback on it or identify any things that can be improved. I can tell you that while you can use a hand drill with the jig, using a drill press or end mill in conjunction with the jig is even easier.

    Here's the simplified step-by-step for the SKS (other rifles are similar). The jig has more detailed instructions as does the brake kit so I'll keep the post brief.

    Take installation jig KA-T004 (KA-T003 for the M44/M91) and slide it on the end of the muzzle and tighten the setscrews to keep it from rotating.

    Use the supplied 3/32" bit to drill thru at the two specified pilot holes. These holes are precisely located so that it will leave a half-circle divot in both sides of the barrel. The jig helps keep the bit from walking while drilling. The finished barrel should look like this:

    Remove the jig and lap and burrs left from drilling (if needed). Slide the KA-1230 unit onto barrel until holes in brake align with divots in barrel.

    Install the included 3/32"x.500 hardened dowel pins in the holes with a punch and hammer. Finished result should look like this:

    Make sure the brake is securely fitted to the barrel (shouldn't move at all, everything is tolerance fit). Gun is ready to be test-fired.

    Here is a little video clip we put together that used a piece of the SKS footage and a condensed version of the M44 testfire we did awhile back. Sorry about the poor production quality, we're not movie producers :lol:

    That, to me, prevents "bubba" gunsmithing. Not a bad idea at all. :)

    Yup, "Bubba" and muzzlebrakes are a bad combo. We actually lose money renting out the jigs ($10 including shipping), but it is worth it to keep people from doing a WECSOG install and launching the part downrange.
