government model slide markings

I have a beautiful nickle plated Colt GM slide and would like to estimate its vintage. Its obviously pre-series-70.

Rt side: COLT'S MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.

Lt side: GOVERNMENT COLT AUTOMATIC [HORSEY]
MODEL CALIBER .45

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

From what is written, you have only the slide? Not sure how to help.

No serial number...I have the slide only.

The text of the inscription changed over the years. I was hoping someone might have information on that.

Per Wilson, the "Colt's Mfg. Co." marking was used from 1947 to 1955.
