OK, I have a GP100 with a 4" barrel that could use an upgrade. Where can I get this done and how much?

The Ruger with a Python barrel was known as a "Couger".

This started with S&W revolvers fitted with Python barrels for Practical Police Course shooting (PPC). back in the 60's.
    The S&W's were called Smythons".

    Here's the problems with converting a GP-100.

    1. You have to find a Python barrel in usable condition.
Python barrels are getting very hard to find these days, and a lot of the ones you see for sale are defective. Which is why they're for sale to start with.

    2. You have to have the right Python barrel.
Older Python barrels have a different thread than newer Python barrels.
The old style threads are .5634-32 with the front sight having TWO pins.
The new style Python barrels have .5625-36 threads and are identified by having ONE pin in the front sight.

With the supply of usable Python barrels drying up fast, it's almost a crime to be using one for something other than replacing a bad barrel on a Python.

So for my GP100 do I need the old style barrel threads or new style barrel threads? How can I tell?

    The Python barrel doesn't help.

Ruger DA revolvers second only to Ruger CF auto pistols for being ugliest handguns ever made.

I realize this is subjective but that's how I feel.

    don't forget about glocks lol

It may not be the pretiest gun around but its still reliable and my favorite gun I own, I like it enough to pour the money into it to try and make it even better.
