Elderly Woman Grabs Gun, Holds Would-Be Burglar At Bay

LAKE LYNN, Pa. -- An 85-year-old great-grandmother from Lake Lynn, Fayette County kept an alleged burglar at bay using a .22-caliber pistol.

According to police, a 17-year-old suspect was attempting to burglarize Leda Smith overnight.

That's when Smith grabbed her gun and told the teen that she would shoot him if he moved, police said.

"I had the gun on him before he turned around and said, 'you've had it,' " Smith told Channel 11-News.

According to police, Smith ordered the boy to dial 911 and then gave him some advice.

"Dial 911 and don't attempt to throw the phone at me, or do anything bad or i'll just shoot you," Smith said.

When police arrived, they took the teen into custody.

Charges have been filed against the boy and an alleged accomplice.

Let's you and I talk about Jesus while we wait for the police to arrive.

No-nonsense grandmaw. Good for her! 41.gif

That 17-year-old is lucky he followed orders!

Dang, I wish they would report make/model/caliber. 14.gif

That's awesome that she made him call the cops. Way to go grandma!

I hope the kid learned his lesson.

And if the kid doesn't want to talk about Jesus and he covers his ears with his hands?

Doc has now created a THR inside joke. Its been in at least 2 threads now!

I just had a mental picture of my grandma whippin out her .38 and giving someone the 1000 meter stare.

My grandmother slept with a little .380 Beretta in her night stand. Don't think she ever had to even take it out though. She had more laughs letting the German Shepherd out to chase folks off her lawn. (Grandma wasn't a mean woman, but she lived on a highway that was THE ROUTE to a popular vacation town and didn't appreciate travelers making pit stops on her trees all summer long.)

I have my Great Grandma's Iver & Johnson top break 32 that she used to sleep with under her pillow and use against bandidos trying to steal her chickens down in Texas. She used it from what I was told and when she got old, it had to be taken away from her. I tell my daughter that I will be the old codger that she will have to take the guns away from.

17 yr old burgler...85 yr old Granny with a gun...= a come to Jesus moment!

I would have loved to have seen that event! Wonder if he wet his pants?

Mark.

.22? eh I would have risked making a dash for it...I mean come on, how accurate could she really be? Plus a .22 pistol looks like a BB gun...

They did a fairly long interview with her on the local ABC evening news last night. She was personable, bright and came across as the perfect example of the need for our 2nd amendment rights. I was pleasantly surprised to see such a pro-gun report on a network station.

Well, the kid is young enough. Maybe he can clean up his act now that he's been shown the hazards of his current occupation.

Cheers to the little lady for exercising restraint, and a job well done.

God Bless you Granny, you remind me of my Granny who died at 94, 10 years ago. I saw her run off an intruder with her 30-30 and a few weeks later dropped an unfortunate deer from the front porch when it stopped to nibble on her cabbage or lettuce. I could never tell them two apart when I was younger, heck I still mess up sometimes and end up having to make coleslaw instead of a tossed salad.

Saw it repeated twice on CNN Headline News of all places, while trapped in a watering hole for lunch today.
CNN was completely pro Granny! This lady has certainly helped advice our position.Told the reporter she got the gun when a neighbor was burglarized 2 years ago. It's been on her bedside nightstand ever since.
Great work by an 85 year old great-grandma.:)
