Had my new to me 2.5 inch 686 out the other day. It was bright and sunny and we filmed some shots in slo-mo at 120 frames per second with my Iphone. These shots were a 125gr Hornady XTP with 21.1gr on Winchester 296 powder. Win 296 has a reputation for muzzle flash, especially from a short barrel. Goodness, Gracious ........

That is a pretty extreme way to light a cigarette. If you are shooting full loads .357 it is to be expected out of a 2.5'' barrel once in a while I get them out of my 6" barrel.

BTW great pictures off of your phone.

Actually I uploaded the video to my PC then using windows video player I was able to advance the video frame by frame. When I got a frame I want I took a picture of the screen, so its a picture of a picture

My vote for an "interesting" muzzle flash is a Rifle No.5 (Jungle Carbine) with the flash hider sawed off and firing the old .303 cordite loads. Now that is awesome. The flame is about 3 feet in diameter and more in length, with purple, red, orange and yellow colors. The show at night is really spectacular, and proves that the actual reason for a flash hider is not to conceal the flash from an enemy but to keep the shooter from being blinded by his own rifle fire.

Very Cool. So cool, it deserves a song:

You thought I was going to post Jerry Lee Lewis, didn't you? :D

Was out after sunset tonight for some more shooting and filming. I'll post more once I edit some stills out of the video. Did some slow motion at 240 frames per second.
