Had a GREAT time today at the range. Qualified 18 Boy Scouts for thier Rifle Shooting Badge. Took 3 1/2 hours and some personell instruction, but in the best traditiond of the USMC I got them SHOOTING.
After the "official" part was over the real fun began. As an incentive I told the boys that anybody who qualified would get to shoot a full clip for the M1 Garand. MAN am I glad I brought a lot of ammo. A great time was had by all, they even seemed to be only slightly bored when I told them of the history of the Garand.

That is fantastic. Scouting is awesome. I wish more kids and parents would get involved. I have felt just as rewarded leading scouts as I have commanding companies of fully grown men in the military.

Probably shouldn't let the council know about the umm... you know... Rifle that might not have been a .22 at the scout function.

The Scout function was completed, everything put away, all the paperwork done, BEFORE the toys came out of thier cases!

That's fantastic. Someone told me just today that there was no longer a Rifle Shooting Merit Badge! I'm glad to hear there still is.

The boy scouts taught me how to shoot. Shame on them for starting an addiction.

Putting your conviction into ACTION. Hope you got a good pat on the back...and maybe a few bucks on the cost of ammo. :D

Good for you...keep it up.

Mark.

Excellent! I'm a Merit Badge Counselor for Rifle and Shotgun. I just recently took a Troop to the range for their first Trap shooting. 95% had never fired anything but .22LR at Scout Camp. They had a blast (literally). Even though it was cold and windy they kept coming back to the line for more shooting. And the parents that came got to shoot a bit at the end and loved it too.
