Normally I go on Sunday afternoons when people decide they don’t want to carry something home but I had to go early Saturday morning because of other commitments. Found a couple of pieces I really wanted but owners weren’t ready to really deal. Came across this nice Mod 28 no dash 4 screw from 1959 with the box. After a little haggling it was mine. Wandered around another hour mainly talking to friends I only see at shows and I was gone. On the way out, I was walking with a guy who had a Smith box and I happen to ask what he bought. He said he was trying to sell a like new Model 19 but nobody offered him close to what he wanted. I took a peek and I’m not sure it’s been fired. Also had all paperwork and tools. He asked if I was interested and of course I had to try and keep a poker face. He said to make an offer. I did trying to not insult but leaving room for the normal back and forth. He said it was best offer he had and took my offer. I was blown away. I’m sure there were dealers that would have offered more. I guess he went to the wrong few and got insulted. I would have paid a little more and still felt like it was a bargain. As is, I feel like it was a steal. Thankfully I had sold a few recently so I could finance these two.

Well Eddie you've done it again! Not knowing your nationality I would still feel safe in saying you've got the luck of the Irish with you when it comes to finding nice S&Ws!

Congrats on the two latest and greatest acquisitions!

Beautiful pieces. Congrats! I've found just enough good deals at gun shows to keep me going to them. It's the unusual items I look for like a 222 Remington Contender, a pristine H&R Buffalo Classic 45-70 or an unfired Ruger Old Army. Now if I could just find those 12 ga. and 20 ga. Lee Loader kits (whack-a-mole type) in good condition.

You had a very good day , to say the least.
A detail about the Highway Patrolman that always interests me : the satin finish is one of the details Smith employed to lower production costs (compared to the m.27) ... but I find that finish very attractive. A very deep gloss blue is a wonder to behold , but I never want to touch such a surface. Then there is the partial lug , much more appealing to me than a full underlug.
The 28 Highway Patrolman is just plain good looking.

I am supposed to be Scotch Irish, but I will admit that I have been extremely lucky as of late. Its got to the point that I've sold some stuff that I was not shooting and a few things I was holding on to. I certainly cant afford to keep everything I have been finding. I do have an advantage that I travel for work and get to hit all of the Gun Shops and Pawn Shops around the state and even a few shops in the neighboring state that will send to my ffl. But there will be a time soon when I don't find anything for a while. It seems to come in spurts. I also have a few big collectors that I buy for at times when I find something that doesn't fit into my normal "collection" and they are generous to pay me a decent finders fee. It amazes me that some people shun Pawn Shops like they won't lower themselves to go into one but they will pay someone else to go for them. I'll dive right in. I love Pawn Shops. Not only for guns but you can find some really interesting stuff at times at real deals.

Nice!

Most shows I hear about from friends around here are filled with mall ninja tactical gear emporiums, jerky vendors and overpriced .22 ammo sellers still chasing profits from bricks bought five years ago.

Glad you and the M-19 seller both felt good about the deal!

Stay safe.
