Interesting. You do, I hope, recognize where JC's getting a lot of his phrases from.

I forget who wrote the song for him, some rock group singer I think?

My understanding was that it was written by a guy named John (no last name), but a few others may have done covers over the years.

Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. Cash covered the song Hurt from "The Downward Spiral", he didn't write it for him. That album is over 10 years old now. I love it when some of ya' old guys get all flaired up about who originaly wrote the song.

I think im going to spend the rest of my day going through my Cash stuff, thanks for that little reminder. :)

I was thinking more of the New Testament apocalyptic imagery.

The Downword Spiral, and specificly Hurt, isn't normaly associated with the Bible. Of course, you can give a song any meaning you want. It's all about the context. What Cash was thinking we'll never know, so I guess that's up to you to figure out for yourself.

And we didn't reinvent the wheel, we just spun it backwords... :scrutiny:

Sheesh, whoever put the pics in video from the first post has some problems. I suspect that being a bigot is the least of such. Didn't we already go through an event here where ignorant people tried to blame 9/11 on all of Islam? :barf:

Maybe if "all of Islam", or even a very small part of it, would have come forward and condemed the attacks, many people would not be so quick to paint them all as bad. Now I know that all of Islam is not bad. Heck I used to eat in a Mid East type deli, and the people there DID condem the attacks. I just wish the world leaders of Islam would do the same thing.

Cannibal, maybe you should go to the library and flip open the koran before you start telling people what islam is really like..

Any religion can be used for evil purposes, that doesn't make the religion itself evil.

The stance of the mods follows LawDog's post pretty closely
    Or from Oleg

Sorry, I must have missed it. It was probably drowned out by all the Arabs cheering.

Google search hits or not the fact is that within their own homes and communities they feel 911 and the War on Terror will only expand the role of Islam, which is the goal of Islam. Any non believer in Islam is an Infidel and should/will be treated as such.

Islam just like gun owners and moms against drunk driving etc. has their group of roll-overs or panderers while the bulk stays somewhat faithful.
So.....as many Moslems as there are in the world (and here) 47,000 hits is like having a TV with only 2 channels, better than nothing but not really.

I say flush the entire Middle East and make a parking lot out of it!

"virgins trimming their wicks", "Alpha and Omega", "hard for thee to kick against the pricks", "whoever is unrighteous, let him be unrighteous still, etc." These are all phrases from the NT.

What CD is this from? I think I might want to get a copy.

I think there's some confusion here.

There are two songs , "when the man comes around" and "hurt".

"When the man comes around" is filled with biblical references.

"Hurt" is a Nine Inch Nails song.

Lee, you two are talking about different songs. You are talking about the song in the very first post - the one with 9/11 and pro-Bush stuff. GoLambo is referring to the song, "Hurt". You are correct about the song you are referring to, and he the song he is referring to. :)

Edit: Damn, someone beat me to it.

Perhaps I join lee n. field (great handle!) in being uncomfortable about this flash video. By the way, the CD is American IV, and is available here:

    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00006L7XQ/103-6947982-0187040

Be cautioned, it is HIGHLY uneven - some great stuff mixed with some real groaners (Cash warbling The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face is downright embarrassing.)

When the Man Comes Around was written by Cash, and is his deeply reverent reflection on the Apocalypse of St. John (Revelations), certainly the most misunderstood Book of the Bible. He said in the liner notes to the CD he had written about 27 pages of lyrics based on the New Testament, and labored mightily to pare the song to its present length. If you listen carefully, this is a powerful song, the best on the CD, IMHO.

It is specifically about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ at the end of days, and the general Judgement which awaits mankind.

To link President Bush to the Second Coming of Christ would offend the former no end, and it could be said to be (if unintentionally) blashphemous. Of course, Jesus forgave His executioners as they nailed Him to a tree, so He might be above such niggling concerns.

Cash won a Grammy for his cover of Reznor's Hurt, which is on the same CD.

Also, the visual equating of all if Islam with the islamofascists should give us all pause. I've no illusions about our enemy in the present conflict (it ain't the IRA or the Zapatistas), but there's plenty of evidence (posted above) of Muslims denouncing the butchery.
