Help me understand what's going on here with grip tape on everything. Some guy gets new grips for his gun because he doesn't like the old grips and what does he do? He wraps the new grips in grip tape. Some guy gets a knife He likes the handle and what does he do? He wraps the handle in grip tape. New tactical flashlight, yep, you guessed it wrapped in grip tape. A can of o c spray yup, grip tape.

What is this new phenomenon of using grip tape on everything?

First I've heard of this phenomenon.
Try asking the guy why?
Well, that's hard to do, because it's usually pictures posted on the internet. And what I mean by grip tape is they use a role of like gaffers, tape or something they think they call it.

The only place I've used grip tape is on the front strap of a couple of guns. A couple of others have front strap checkering already. I have aggressive grips without adding grip tape

Sounds like what a criminal does to ensure he doesn't leave prints on his gun.
I've actually used sandpaper on front of grip frames. Just choose the grit that feels right and then remove the grip panels and wrap it over the front and reinstall grip panels to hold it. Works great and as a plus it protects the frame from bluing wear and gives a better grip at the same time!

I used grip tape on the lawnmower to keep the unneeded lever attached to the bar. For some reason it won’t start or run without it taped. Worked like a champ. Never on a firearm. Wouldn’t want the look or the tape goo.

I have used Talon Grips (grip tape -precision cut grip tape) on a couple of my Glocks. The rubber grip is great. The granulate is way too aggressive.
Grip tape is great if your hands are wet from sweat, rain, mud, blood, etc. They also sell grip tape material so you can cut it to your needs. The stuff works great for things that you need traction on.

Just a fad ... some U-Tube expert says how great it is ....Sooo everyones gotta jump on the wagon and put grip tape on everything .
Ignore them ... they will soon go away .
I Am Not putting grip tape on those beautiful dark red Cocobolo grips that Kim Ahrend made for me ...
see my avatar ...Ahrends Retro-Combats ... no grip tape required !

I also have used Talon grips on a couple of my plastic guns. I'm happy with their performance.

The ones that just us old friction tape that is fugly just watched Michael Corleone get his gun from behind the flush tank... cool...

Do you think this is new? Guys have been using skateboard tape, stair tread tape, grip sleeves, Decal Grips, etc for decades.
I used first used it on a Browning Hi Power in 1981. Right there on the front strap.

It ain't new, much less a phenomenon.

Thats was recommended in gun mags in the '80's.

Ok ok, it became ramped then instead of occasionally seen.

I have them on all my plastic guns. Why...because I like 'em! Oh, and nobody's suggesting you put them on cocobolo or any wooden grip for that matter.
Agreed!

If I have smooth wooden grips and need texture, I buy new grips. Simple. My goal in carrying a revolver isn’t to show off it’s lovely grips. 😉

I haven't seen much of the "he liked the grip/handle, etc." and put grip tape on it, but rather "he liked everything else about the gun/knife/flashlight, etc, but the grip wasn't very good so he put grip tape on it."

I probably would never have used Talon Grips on anything, if I hadn't really liked the Beretta PX4. I like just about everything about the gun, except for the super slick side panels on the grip frame. I put some Talon Grips on that gun and it has, for the most part, been an improvement.

I don't see folks putting grip tape over checkered front straps of 1911's, but it is common to see on 1911's with no front strap texturing.

Spent many a hour putting it on hockey sticks.........

I actually have hockey tape wrapped around my steering wheel after it started to deteriorate (after 15 years.) Didn't work so well in the Texas heat, however.

Decal Grips

The first Kahr CW9 I bought... from some guy down in Plano... had Decal Grips on it. Still have them on there, too... ;)
