• Possible Downtime Alert

I am working to migrate THR from the current cluster to a new one. I would like to get this done before the weekend, but it's unclear what the timeframe will be, as testing is still ongoing. As I am writing this the new (rebuilt) host is doing a burn-in to ensure that everything will keep running under load.

When the migration happens users will see a Cloudflare message indicatating it cannot connect to the server. This is expected, and depending on how the migration goes this may last from 30 minutes to 3 hours - I won't know more until testing the various migration options is complete and I have finalized the plan.

More information is available in this thread.

As always, thanks so much for your patience.

I recently purchased a Walther PPK in .32 and would like to replace the plastic grips. I’m struggling to find wood grips that I can be confident will fit the new USA “Arkansas” (manufactured at Walther’s Arkansas factory) grip profile. It seems the Beavertail was extended compared to the German models / S&W licensed version and there is some doubt as to whether any given set of grips will fit.

Does anyone have any recommendations for nice wood grips that will fit the recent USA manufactured variety of PPK?

Thank you!

The first place I'd probably call would be Walther (Arkansas) customer service. You can't be the first person facing this issue. If no joy with customer service, you might wish to talk to the various Walther Collector forums.

Good luck, Sequins.

Hogue hardwood grips for the PPK will fit the Fort Smith model. The inside of each grip half has a locating pad that will need to be lightly (no power tools) sanded in the locations shown below:

It's easily done with a file. Just file a little then check the fit. You don't have to take off much. If you don't do anything stupid like trying to use a dremel, when you're done, they'll look like this:

That's checkered rosewood on the black one and checkered cocobolo on the stainless.

One note. If you look at the stainless one, you can see that the bottom of the grip is just the tiniest smidge below the frame. I only use the flat base mags, so no problemo, but if you use the finger rest mags, the rest might interfere with seating the mag and you have to give it a good whack to seat it. Or you can remove the finger rest, lay it top side down on a piece of sandpaper and rub it back and forth until you remove enough. No more than 1/16" I think.

If you want something fancier, Hudson River Valley Customs (hrvcustoms.com) gets plain wood grips from Hogue, Altamont and another company I've never heard of and does custom work on them. I have a Hogue grip from them, and it's really nice, but I prefer the plain checkered grips.

Obviously, since I don't know anything about that third company HRV uses, I can't judge them, but I'd be careful about Altamont grips as they have QC and customer support issues. My wife and I have had multiple problems with them and won't buy them again.

I’ll be watching this thread , because I recently bought a Fort Smith PPK .32 auto . I might decide to class mine up a little with some nice wood grips .

I gotta tell you, in addition to looking really nice, the wood grips also fill my hand better. I can't imagine ever going back to the plastic grips.

I’m comfortable with a little filing. I’ll give these a try and report back on how it works.

The rosewood looks excellent and will be my choice for the black PPK as well.

Really love the looks of your grips in your earlier post, and they extend far enough to tone down the proboscis that started with the S&W manufacture.
Unhappily, the wood grips feel too full for my hands, but that's just me.
There are some synthetic/laminate grips that stay slim, but remain sturdy. Wood can't be slimmed too much.
