The MCP35 PI is set to come to market. It has the traditional front end not the blocked off front profile of the FM Detective. It should fit into standard BHP holsters. On this version they got rid of the Safety Warning which was one of my biggest objections to the MCP35. I wish they had gone with a standard MKIII sight vs the Practical style front which will mar the top of the slide when you replace it. They are taking dealer orders now.

You could take a Dremel cutting wheel to the front sight blade and carefully cut off the overhanging portion before pressing the rest out of the dovetaill to avoid marring the finish.

That's nice. I've already got a full sized one, so I doubt I'll get one, but it's nice.

    Interesting, very interesting...

I would definitely like to try one out just to see how the balance is and if it handles any differently from the standard Hi-Power.

They shoot a little differently. Similar to a Commander vs Govt 1911. Weight wise they are about the same. This is my FM Detective upper which rides on a FN frame.

European LE alloy FN P35 with an FM Detective fitted on top of it. Predator Custom Shop (RIP) rebuilt and tuned the alloy P35 and slide as well as the Detective. The sights and finish all match. The alloy bottom makes a big difference in weight and the shorter upper make for easier carry.

How do you feel about the barrel cam being different? The FM Detective barrel has the standard cam lug cut while the alloy frame has a the round cut to accomidate the second pin in the frame? This has always been my concern with converting the alloy's to Detectives.

Jimmy and the guys at Predator made certain it would work perfectly. I shoot it and carry it and it has always done well.

I know that they will run but to me there was always a question of longevity. The alloy frames don't last as long as the steel ones and the cam insert is one of the weak points. Have you seen an deformation on the cam, on frame around the cam or the barrel?

I don't need another sidearm, I don't need another sidearm, I don't need another sidearm. If I keep saying it long enough maybe I will not get one of these!

Sounds cool. I hope someone will eventually bring a Mk IIIs (firing pin safety version) to market.

So what is different about the detective models?

I assume it's still a full size frame made of steel.
Did they ever come in an alloy?
Just the slide is shorter, correct?

3.88" Barrel shorter slide on full sized frame. Like a Commander or Centurion.

I've always held off on buying a Hi-Power because if I'm going to carry a full sized auto, I'd rather it were a 1911, but I admit my interest is piqued also.

I'm going to add Girsan's PI model and Ops model to my HP stable. Need to find an aluminum alloy surplus version too.

I carry both... 15+1 (17+1 with extended mag base) has its merits
