Deal site Groupon is suspending all scheduled and current gun-related deals, including shooting ranges, conceal-and-carry and clay shooting, pending further "review".

If you are a business owner that was using groupon, you might want to consider this. As well as us consumers. Groupon is finito for me.

Never used them, and yet I don't find it suprising either.

I just sent off a formal request to them to cancel my account (and let them know why). There were some good deals on there occasionally (one local range would put up the occasional $25 pass that included a box of ammo, a gun rental, and a range pass) but I don't wish to support any anti-2nd amendment company.

Groupon has been having trouble lately anyways. There's a lot of such "deal" companies springing up as they require very little up-front startup cash. LivingSocial is another big one. I'm sure we'll have a gun-centric one in response to this very soon (much like Armslist was started as a result of Craigslist banning firearms listings).

    My response to Groupon:

In light of the following article/notification, I am currently reviewing my policy on my membership with Groupon. Should Groupon not be supportive of Constitutional Rights, I will find it neccesary to end my relationship with your otherwise fine organisation.

Please consider your options carefully. This issue has become widely known in the firearms community, and the wrong decision could be very costly to your company and it's profits.

The overreaction people and businesses alike have to this shooting is starting to piss me off.

I never used groupon, but my wife does. It is their choice and I respect it. But I still hope they receive a huge backlash from it.

I just used their "contact us" link to ask them to close my account and that I would no longer do business through them, and why.

Posted on their Facebook page about why I will no longer use them. Saw nothing but pages of the same posts. They will definitely 'feel' the repercussions of this decision.

Never used them before but it's a shame. Add them to the list. It's very important we don't do business with these kinds of companies and that we let them know why.

I just got a response that they normally respond within 24 hours but are "running a little behind right now."

Hopefully that is because so many people are voicing their disapproval!

I used them once, to get my CPL class for $70. I will be canceling my account with them as well.

I guess it varies from market to market, but Groupon went from "occasionally interesting" to "annoying spam" quite some time ago.

Typical lefty Chicago type thinking they're doing something 'socially important' with their app business, and thinking they're doing something 'socially responsible' by dropping firearms-related business.

Fart in the wind so far as I'm concerned. Good riddance.

It may be a moot point anyway. Word is that the coupon sites like Groupon, Living Social etcetera are all about to go away, as the business model has largely been a failure.

Glad this made it to the forum.

I use groupon regularly. Two for ones, deals all over town. It is cool to just enter your zip code and get a bargain. Already sent them an email and won't use them until this is over.

    Thanks for posting.

    Just sent them an email:

Today I read a disturbing article (link below) regarding Groupon contemplating not to support the firearms community. Should Groupon not stand behind our Constitutional Rights, unfortunatley I'll be forced to end my relationship with your organization to support other similar business (LivingSocial, etc.)

I sent them a short, polite email a few days ago after reading this thread and cancelled any future emails from them. I received the following email back today:

    Hi xxxxxxx,

Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us.

We understand that this is a sensitive topic, and that some of our customers may not agree with our choice to pause the promotion of firearm-related deals. Groupon has always aimed to offer a diverse range of products and services to meet the various tastes and interests of our subscribers. However, at this time, enough customers and merchants have voiced their opinions that we believe a hiatus is warranted.

Please note that we have never sold guns, and this hiatus only applies to firearm-related deals including shooting ranges, clay pigeon shooting, and concealed weapons training classes. We have not made a final determination regarding this category -- we are simply taking a break and may reevaluate in the future.

We genuinely appreciate your opinion and the feedback you've given us. I'll be sure to share your comments with the appropriate people.

    Regards,

    Claudia P.

In other words, "corporate" as issued a directive, and your comments will be forwarded into the circular file.

I got the same response from "James B"

I told them to cancel my account and remove me from their database and that I'll consider rejoining if they change their policy in the future.

Many of these coupon sites are a real rip off for the establishment that gets conned into trying them.

    I got talked into restaurants.com

It turned out they sold a $25 off coupon for $10, (the coupon site gets the $10) with the stipulation that the customer must at least spend $10.
So I end up giving away $25 of food and earn what little profit margin there is on the other $10 worth of sales, all in the name of attracting business.
No one needs that kind of business.

These kinds of sites are smart not to encourage firearm use.:D

I like(d) Groupon....purchased a concealed carry course for the Mrs. and an advanced firearms training course for both of us through the site. No more.

I sent them an email letting them know they could kiss my disposable income goodbye.
