dug a scope out of the back of my safe that someone had gave me, simple tasco 4x32 fixed, mounted it on my new CVA Scout 350L take down set up and took a shot, impact was about a foot low, spun the cap off the elevation turret and the whole turret came out...now I've got to go and buy a scope

Thought that kinda stuff only happened to me lol. I have a whole pile of old scopes, if youd like one, Id be happy to send it to you.

Yup, that's the gamble of cheap scopes. Years ago I had quite a few give up the ghost, including a Tasco that the reticle broke on the first shot......on a .22LR. It's why I stopped gambling on them and have to chuckle a little bit when people imply that the older Japanese Tascos are so much better than the newer Chinese crap.

Anything by Tasco is going to be low end, but since it's already mounted, you might try screwing the thing back in with a dab of blue Loctite. You don't have anything to lose, and so maybe you can wait on buying a good scope.

Why Mongo no like candy? I confess to owning a number of Bushnell scopes (Primes) and I’ve still got two Japanese Tasco scopes showing their age while not being the worst I’ve owned. I do still long for better glass on better rifles than I have.

.......I still CHOOSE to put old Simmons and Tascos on stuff lol.

But then we all know im a little broken

If those are the aluminum Tasco rings I think they are, upgrading them would be worth your while. I used them back when I was a broke 20-something and they were nothing but trouble.

For me, the only Tasco optics worth the trouble are the old ProClass 30mm pistol scopes. They always seemed a cut above, even compared to their "World Class" rifle scopes. Their black models came with nicely polished and blued steel rings, while the silver versions were hard chromed. I've had this 2x for probably 30yrs.

But picked up several more in the last 10yrs or so, like this 3x. They used to be cheap but no more.

Ok now i have a question. What do you do with all these bad or broken scopes? I seem to have 3 or 4 laying around somewhere that im hoping the optics fairy will miraculously fix. I cant seem to throw them away. What do y'all do?

I used to tuck them under my pillow in hopes that same fairy would appear. Now they mostly occupy space in a small wooden crate with thoughts of perhaps some day scattering them amongst camp gear or vehicles as potentially useful “spotting” scopes. Many are the times I wish I had a 9x view of my 25 yard handgun targets when I failed to bring a set of binos along.

If any of them have a worthwhile warranty (and good glass) you might send them in for replacement, then give some new shooter a useful piece of gear. The same applies to good condition firearms that no longer serve your purpose such as children’s rifles.

I fix them sometimes and keep using them. Sometimes they get given away for projects or to be spotting scopes as suggested. Mostly ill just strip bad ones down for parts if i cant fix them tho

On a .22rf.....id rock a 4x or 2-7x kept at 4x.
Gas to and from hunting/ shooting.....time involved.
Ammo cost....

Not really a fan of going cheap.

Who makes a decent 4x these days?
Lots of the Chinese scopes have huge oculars and are heavy.

I've looked for a straight 4x scope for a while because it's a happy medium for what I do. But i think everyone quit making them about 20 years or so ago.
