Gun and Shooting Stuff you don’t need but keep…

If you think about it, we complain that we don’t haves any money but the average guy here probably has at least $25,000 worth of guns and another $5-$10 k in related “stuff”

Only in America do we whine that we want/need more “stuff”, then have to rent storage units to hold the stuff we never use

OMG!! I think Jerry and myself are actually twins that were separated at birth!!

Btw, Mark Mark. My avatar asked me the other day when you were going to show up and shoot Her...
My other shop got New Old Stock of Les Baer from 15+ years ago. Going to look for your signature on the certificate!

1) a WW2 Sauer 38H, but the decocker doesn't work, very worn spring, and the takedown lever has a little lok-tite to keep it in place (a tiny unfamiliar pin had fallen out, was lost).

But the gun otherwise functions quite well, is fun to shoot, and is one of my favorite handguns, other than the ludicrous price of .32 acp ammo. Nice ergos for a small handgun in slender hands and very solid engineering for its vintage.

Fwiw 99% of my shooting is with my NATO-era "Battle Rifles".

2) my Romanian .22 LR Trainer is very seldom used. It looks sort of like a baby Mauser rifle. Too bad the lousy Chinese (?) repro mag doesn't feed at All.🤨

I tend to keep things around Justincase. :D I have little boxes and big boxes and have to search through them if one of those Justincases comes up. Some of it is something I have replaced because I did like it and find it strange that I save it but I do. I have a large storage box of floral carved and lined holsters I have made over the years and have no idea where it is now. Lots of dollars in leather and labor in that box.

At this point in my life I am contemplating putting 2 SAA revolvers on consignment at my LGS and that may grow to 3. One I don't enjoy shooting as it's trigger guard is very rough on my middle finger and I have two of the others and seldom shoot either. The only reason I have an AR is for coyote hunting and I lost the ability to do that a few years ago but here it stays and I have what I consider better options for home defense. I built a pretty wild 10/22 several years ago and haven't shot it in years. One of my grandsons thinks it is really something and I should just pass it on to him.

I do have "some" self control. I dreamed up a pistol rest and made it, corrected what I considered it's short coming, and still wasn't satisfied with the result so I dreamed up another and did the same with the same results. After salvaging what I wanted to save from each both went in the dumpster last fall. I might use some of it on my next attempt.

Guns and their accessories are not the only things I horde. I have a large metal storage chest in my garage and one drawer is stuffed with obselete electronic chargers and cords that fit nothing I own anymore. I have sets of both SAE and metric wrenches that I can't give away. I guess I inherited the use it up and wear it out gene from my father, He never disposed of anything that he though he might need in the future. He passed in 1980 and some of those things are still here, unused and completely obselete.

Which comes around fairly often, I use old junk I saved all the time to fix stuff. I rebuilt a deer feeder with old parts a couple of days ago. Timer and motor were still good, but the nut on the bolt that is attached to the housing which holds the timer/battery wouldn't come loose. I had to cut it off. I have a cabinet with used deer feeder parts.

I save all kings of crap. :)

It's hard to try to sell single, unique components (lonely handgun handguards, or a single mag) without time wasted trying to "nickel and dime" people at the gun club.

Far too much trouble, texting, time spent just for potentially Very little cash. I end up giving stuff away to have less clutter in plastic boxes.

Get a table at your local gun show and have some fun with it.

So do I. Trouble is I forget where I put something when I need it, spend lots of time looking for it, and give up and go buy a new one. Then shortly afterwards run across what I couldn't find.
I made a 30-06 Rolling Block copy from a seven pound block of 4140 and a donated barrel from Les. Bought the springs and the screws. Everything else I made on a Smithy bench top combo lathe, drill press and milling machine. Took seven years, an hour here and there after work. Had it professionally heat treated to RC 40. Passed proof at 85,000 PSI with a German proof round.

It isn't exactly crazy, but it is crazy heavy, weighing in at almost 11 pounds. The penalty for the extra beef is weight...

I have posted many pictures of it in the past, I'm too lazy to post one here.

I have a Navy Arms re-pro and it weighs over 10 pounds. When shot off a bench I wish it was 20 pounds. I intended for years to build a small one in 22LR. I have all the tools needed but never found the roundtoit time for some reason. I don't think I could stand for an hour to use any of them now.

One of my pet sayings is that "if you can't put your hands on it fairly quickly and easily - you don't really have it".

I've got quite a few things hanging around here I reckon i could part with. My old Model 70 300 Chester has been sitting idle for years, as are quite a few others. I've got a bunch of 8mm stuff but no 8mm anymore. Also have a bunch of 308 stuff, but the only 308 in the house is an FAL. Got plenty of surplus ammo for it. O well, I'll have to deal with it at some point or another

Cardboard for target backers here at the home range. I was always grabbing big pieces and stashing them in the barn. I ended up donating a pile to our muzzle loading club to use for target backers.
Our club lost their lease and has to vacate the property by next month... 🙁

I have been reorganizing my reloading / gun room! so much crap in the trash. I did buy a rifle rack so my gun is not propped on the wall! It’s looking GOOD TOO

I would put my OKC M7 bayonet into this category of 'don't need but keep'. 100% don't need it, obviously... and it has pretty much stayed in the box ever since I bought it. But, it's just fun knowing I could make use of that bayonet lug if I ever wanted to. 😆
