Gun auction sites

I find myself needing to sell a couple of guns. I don't mean if I don't sell them I don't eat needing to sell, but it would make Christmas more nice if I sold a couple. The local show here stinks on ice. At least it has the last couple of shows. So, I'm thinking of going the auction site route, and am soliciting opinions of those sites:

- Which do you guys think is best?
- Which is easiest to work with?
- What questions have I not thought to ask?

I sold a pistol on Gunbroker and it was a very positive experience

In my opinion, unless its a collector that needs a "real" auction
this is the best place to get the highest price

I've had very good luck with Gunbroker as well. Auctionarms just doesn't get as much traffic, and Gunsamerica is more dealer-oriented. I've gotten more for guns than I anticipated ($2500 when I thought I'd get $1400, for example) and paid less than I expected to. Just don't buy or sell when you're hungry.

I've sold several handguns on gunbroker.

I always state in my ad to "be sure your FFL will accept from a non FFL".

All have been very positive experiences.

Sold a couple and bought bunches on Gunbroker Best site for me!!! Got a virus after using Auction arms. Not sure if it came from there but that was the only site I was on for three days and it happened then. Just cautious and no longer use that site.

I would try your local gun clubs first - less hassle, no shipping, etc. After that, I prefer a NON-auction site like GunsInternational.com.......

If you're dead set on an auction then pick any of the three major ones - they're all pretty much the same

If you just have a couple to sell, do it here. I have had very good experiences selling on THR. No commissions to pay, no contracts to sign.

I always start on the forums: THR, TFL, etc. If they don't move there, then move to Gunbroker.com. As others have said, I always include the line: "Make sure your FFL will accept shipment from a private seller." Just be aware that shipping a handgun is expensive any way you do it.

I've had positive experiences both on the various forums and on gunbroker, depending on what I'm selling.

I prefer to do auctions as a low starting price no reserve auction. If you have a minimum price you want start the auction there with no reserve. You do need to do some research though, looking at completed auctions to make this work well. Some items you just get better money on the forums, where there is a higher demand for certain items. For example, any non-collector lever gun will probably get a higher price on a forum with a lot of lever gun lovers than on gunbroker.

The few guns I sold, I was very lucky in having a regular transfer dealer who did not charge for outgoing transfers. I'd leave the gun with him, then tell him who to ship to when the sale was made - made for a smooth sale, no fuss, no back and forth emails about checking this or that. If you can get that done for $20 or less ffl fee, I think its well worth it.

I have sold numerous guns and other items on auction sites and the most inportant things are good pictures and a good honest discription. The other thing as mentioned before is start the bid at the lowest you will accept.

I could only wish that I had enough guns that selling some of them would even cross my mind.

Gunbroker worked for me, but only bought so far.
