every time you shoot it seems kind of anal and dont seem to help as far as i can tell.

now if they are being stored for long periods...

After 500 but before 1000 rounds
I lightly oil the guns after each range session.
I let guns sit for a year that were dirty. No harm done.
My pistols are for range use only. No competition. Just for informal target shooting.
The night stand pistol stays clean full time. If I do shoot it I will re-clean it.

I clean my guns whether I fire 10 rounds or 250 rds at a range session.

My CCW once a Month. Other guns every 3-6 months. Run a bore snake through after every shooting session.
