Gun Deaths Up or Down?

Overall, this may be true. However, local numbers may differ. Here in the St. Louis area, we're having a near record year. Those nationwide averages likely mean nothing to your local situation. Ask the people of Chicago how that's working out for them.

I believe its very recently on the rise in certian urban areas, and tend to agree with those who believe it is connected with the anti-law enforcment movement, but in terms of longer term context it is still at its lowest in decades.

Yepper. And, of course, most studies like the ones referenced in the OP's link use annual data that is usually a couple of years old. What is happening TODAY won't be reflected in that data set.

The article referenced at "American Thinker" in turn references a couple of other articles:

Pew: Homicide Rates Cut in Half Over Past 20 Years (While New Gun Ownership Soared)

and:

Gun homicides steady after decline in ’90s; suicide rate edges up

Both of those are worth reading.

And in reference to "local numbers may differ", this is another good article:

The Mistake of Only Comparing US Murder Rates to "Developed" Countries

The subject of that article isn't really related to "local numbers", but does contain several charts that do reference local differences - at least on a state level.

Compared to the 1970's and early 1990's, homicide rates are down. Down in the US, down in Chicago, down in St Louis.

gun deaths are down, but they are down less than other types of homicides. The rate of decline of gun homicides is less than the rate of decline of other types of homicides.

IMHO: The Anti Law Enforcement Movement, is going to cause more Gun Violence and Homicide rates to increase even more in the Inter City areas. Where Rioting, Looting, and Burning is an Excepted, Condoned, and Encuraged way of life. If I was part of Law Enforcement in any way in these areas. I would be very slow to respond to any type of calls, in thoes areas, if I went at all. Let them handle their own problems. Let them kill and rob each other in their own streets. Let them take all the Cell Phone Pictures they want of there own kind killing each other.
Let them go with out the protection, of the very people ((( Law Enforcement ))) they just love to hate and belive causes most of their problems by treating them unfairly. That use to risk their lives Day after Day for them. But I don`t think I would make a very good ((( COP )))

IMHO our main issue/problem both as a nation and as responsible firearms owners is the increase in number and intensive media coverage of mass shootings. We can cry foul all we want, but our culture prizes fame & notariety and our media run the sensational stories that sell. Troubled individuals see that as their ticket to fame, and the cycle repeats.

I see the problem, but I don't have a clue on what the solution to it is.

We have 24hr news cycles, especially with cable news, then there is news on the internet. The people who use this media have a lot of time to fill. Then there is social media with people who glamorize or dramatize specific events. A combination of all this gives you the false perception it's unsafe to walk outside, which is probably true in some neighborhoods after dark.

I don't see gun deaths as rising. A couple of mine were acting sick but I cleaned them and they seem fine now.

The same way the media refuses to show the tens of thousands of supporters that turn out for Trump and Carson every day, the lowering of deaths in the past 20 years is disregarded and only mentioned when there is something negative to say.
We live in a fantasy world created by a 24 hour news cycle.
