    January 1, 2004, 7:00am (EST): WLS (890 AM, Chicago) just announced that gun-free Chicago ended 2003 with 599 murders.:uhoh:

While this is the lowest number since Chicago started its unending flurry of "gun control" laws in the mid-'60s, it is five more than New York City which is much larger in population and at least allows its subjects to possess and maybe carry a pistol. However, gun control is working. No one except those in favor with Mayor Daley may legally possess or carry a pistol in Chicago!

Man, not a day goes by that I do not thank Vishnu that I left. After I get out of the office today, I'm doing my drills!!!

    Hi El Tejon:

    Hi El Tejon:

Quick personal question. Did you take “Defensive Shotgun†at Thunder Ranch in 2002?
    Happy New Year.

Yes. I wrote about it on TFL.

Were we in the same class? I was shooting on the left side with the Detroit cops. In the class photo I am on the right side of the first row, kneeling on both knees.

Actually, that's pretty good for Chicago. There will probably be celebrations. Last year the number was 667, if I recall correctly.

Hey, that is less than 2 per day!!:)

What are we doing about the underemployment of coroners?

    Gun Control = People Control

Another failed experiment. THose 599 must have been caused by guns from the evil manufacturer's flooding the market and from out of city/county sales. Cause we all know that criminals obey the law. :scrutiny:

7.62, it is not a failure. Legal guns are few and far between in Chicago. That is exactly what Daley wants.

Gun control is about control of people, not of criminals.

Pure sarcasm on my part. I am with you. No gun control = living , breathing people. Unarmed sheeple = non-breathing people.

If Daley and his entire political machine in cook county were disposed of and everybody armed what would next years numbers be? This is truely a worthwhile humanitarian experiment.

Hmmm . . . I wonder what the demographics were, among both shooters and shootees?

Some years back Chicago completed a 20 year study of murders in the city. IIRC about 3/4 of the killers had prior criminal records. The good news was so did 2/3 of the victims, putting these murders firmly into the "good riddance" category in many people's minds.

This was bad enough, from the standpoint of the Politically Correct, but then someone had the audacity to break things down by . . . uh . . . ethnicity. These numbers were SO skewed that, for PC reasons, the study was pretty much "spiked" as a news story.

    El Tejon,
For a minute, I thought you had news that the City Council and gang bangers had agreed to disarm. While not the best solution it would at least place everyone on an equal footing....

Chicago regains title of U.S. murder capital

Way to go Chitown! We knew you could do it. Score another win for the Daley camp; although you missed the 600 goal. L.A. fell to third with a dismal showing of under 500 but I'm sure they will do better next year.

Baltimore Police Commissioner Kevin P. Clark said part of the increase was due to gunmen hitting their victims with more bullets.

"They are not looking to shoot a guy in the leg to send a message," Clark said. "They are out to kill these guys."

Now we know why Kevin P. Clark is the police commissioner. He is too stupid to be anything else. Bet he couldn't write a parking ticket without help.

Jonsey, tell me about it. Some of us are right next to the cage.:uhoh:

Anywho, today after a making my afternoon rounds, I popped inside a downtown bodega/grocery to get a Sobe (I give up lattes to get hooked on Tsunamis, go figure) and see the headline of the Indianapolis Star which proclaims that murders in Indy were down.

Hey, wait a minute, how can that be when Indiana is awash in guns and allow any and all residents to carry pistols with $25 and a background check where Chicago has had a handgun freeze since '83 and bans all kinds of things legal in Indy: eeevil black guns, machine guns, suppressors, carrying pistols? How can this be? Since guns cause crime, according to Mayor Daley, should not Indianapolis have had a huge increase in murder?

It must be really irritating to the elitist control freaks that the common folk don't conform to their pet theories. :)

edit: post number 1877 - the year of the Nez Perce flight for freedom :(

Not to put too fine a point on it, but isn't that more than the number of US soldiers who were killed in Iraq during the same year?

The reason less died in Iraq is because they are ARMED and can DEFEND themselves.
