I recently refinished the slide of my CZ-52 with Brownell's Gun Kote. I followed the recommended procedures for application, and it turned out well. For this gun, I'm happy with the results.
I now want to re-finish the slide on my XD-9. It's beginning to show some holster wear around the corners, but no rust yet. This is the only legitimate complaint I've heard about these guns. Problem is, the "matte black" Gun Kote finish isn't so flat compared to the factory finish on the XD. It's not exactly glossy on the CZ, but it does shine quite a bit more than I expected.
Is there a way I can flatten out the finish by preparing the metal a certain way? I'm not sure what type of media the CZ slide was blasted with (I can find out), but would a coarser grit or multiple coats of GK help?
