Definition of a redneck.
Did I understand well? Full of socialist so called Democrats? Or what is it mean?
I was wondering when our new Pole member would first hear 'redneck'. In a discussion about Kentucky you just can't get around the issue I guess
There's basically 3 stereotypes, typically considered "Southern", that get mixed together here. They are: a) Redneck, b) Hill Billy, and c) Good 'ol boy (Good Old Boy).
I don't have anything against people of the South... so read this with some humor in mind.
The following basically applies to
all three:
Drinks cheap American beer of the Miller/Budweiser variety. Drinks a whole lot of it too.
Wears jeans and t-shirts all the time. Probably has baseball cap on too. Does not own a suit or a tie most likely.
If he doesn't smoke he chews tobacco. Might do both. At the same time.
Drives a pickup truck. A very old pickup truck. If state laws allows, it's got a gunrack on the back window. Actually it might have one even if state law doesn't allow it.
Their "accent" is more than just a Southern drawl. They've got their own language sometimes.
They own a few firearms, mostly shotguns and hunting rifles.
Redneck:
Generally has racist undertones to it. Generally speaking everybody in the 'KKK' is thought to be a redneck by default. Not all rednecks are in the KKK though, if that make sense. They don't refer to blacks (or African American if you want to be real politically correct) as anything but "colored folk" or worse.
Strong dislike for gay men.
Hill Billy / Goold 'ol Boy:
Probably knows somebody that makes moonshine (illegal, and strong, liquor).
They invented NASCAR and watch/listen to it religiously. Actually stock car racing was born out of bootlegging (running illegal liquor).
Good 'ol Boy specific:
Probably more "rounded" than the others. Far more likely to be overweight than the other groups.
Probably played high school football or other sport.
Loves his mother. Say something bad about mama and you'll get popped with a fist.
Has no problem with non-white people, so long as they don't try and marry into the family, or try and drive in NASCAR.
Feels a little uncomfortable around gay men.
Hill Billy specific:
Loves everybody in his family. The family tree might not have taken "normal" paths in it's branching process. Cousins make good wives/husbands.
Doesn't know that non-white people exist.
Doesn't know that gay men exist.
