I just got home from the dedication of this.

My only problem was I was Gun Naked all day.

But what a day of courtesy, cordial discussion, sharing of hurts and dreams. I was totally thrilled in the show of respect for our "Greatest generation".
I went with my Mom and Dad, He was a Coxswain of the small boat of a Fleet oiler in the pacific and was the first Fleet Oiler to be hit by a Kamakazee in the pacific. My Dad's best friend was killed when the plane hit the 50 cal gun mount he was in shooting at the plane. My Dad has told me about when he went on the Mail run, the Mail Guard and my dad would shoot the guards 1911 at the flotsam and jetsam that went by the Small boat.

The ceremony was very good and the memorial is terrific. George W and his father were there and Klinton showed his ugly mug also.

But the greatest thing was that the men and women of WWII were honored finally.

Cool, I watched some of the dedication on C-span today. My Grandfather was there with his Marine buds. The best part about Clinton being there was watching him walk away alone, and then the camera moved to everyone swamping Pres. Bush for a handshake.:p It's about time for this memorial.

I remember walking by it while it was under construction. I can't wait to see it completed.

My oldest son lives in the suburbs of this cesspool and when we go visit I am armed, the laws be damned.

When we visit D.C., New York city, Los Angeles- I am armed. These are the only times that I carry a weapon. I think that these are the only times that I would need to use it also.

I am not trying to flame anyone, but who else can I count on to protect my wife and I?

I guess you'd pee your pants if you came here to Jersey without your gun. Where you come from you can wop them with your surf board.

Piney,
Somehow your response went over my head. Could you clarify it to me?

Thanks,
Joey2

The reason I was Gun naked I was told they were going to have metal dectectors at the entrance to the dedication, but they did not. I have often toted a S&W centennial in the pine barrens and have been to N Jersey and NYC and DC with it but Piney your statement is uncalled for.

Besides this is more about the dedication and the memorial.

I agree it may have been on called for and off topic, but also calling our nations capitol a cesspool was equally so.
You may have carried here, but unless you are a federal officer, it was probably illegal. Out of state CC is not recognized and even a resident has about as much chance winning the lottery as obtaining a CCP unless you are police or armed guard.
Back on topic, congratulations to your father on his ability to attend the service. Even though my father only lives a few miles from there in Manassas and is a veteran of the South Pacific at 86 he was not healthy enough.

Can someone post a link with some info to this Memorial? I haven't heard of it, but it sounds like a war memorial. I would like to read up on it.

Brian, it's really cool that your dad was able to see a creation memorializing something he took part in. I always thought we the greatest fruits of labors.

One of the things i miss the most about growing up in Maryland was going to DC and seeing all the monuments and ceremonies. Most of them really are incredible.

'Cuse the ignorance, but this much needed monument was built between the Washington and Lincoln Monuments?
