Gun places in NH

I am going to be visiting a friend in Chesterfield, New Hampshire. He's new there and i was wondering if any one here knows of a good place to buy guns new or used, places to shoot, things to hunt.


Cant wait to go, my friend is try to get me to move there, great guns laws, open nice land (no city), low cost of living. This trip is part of is plan to convince me. lol.

Unfortunately I know of nothing in the Chesterfield area. But if you guys are willing to travel a bit there is Riley's Sport Shop in Hooksett which is in the south-central part of the state. I'd guess that'd be 50 or so miles away. It is the largest dealer in the state. The staff is pretty knowledgeable and there is something for everyone. The store was founded by Dick Riley I'd guess in the fifties. He was a past president of the NRA. My favorite section of the store is the bargain corner where I've been buying all manner of reloading supplies for way under retail. It is an honest store. Once something leaves the store it is considered used even if it's never been opened or fired. Just recently I've bought primers for $1 a box, Several pounds of RL17, 19 and 22 for $10 a lb. Currently they have a sale on used long guns @ 10-20% off. It's usually 20%. Just to give an idea as to inventory, two weeks ago they had 4 new and 2 or 3 used M1A's, a rifle that apparently is difficult to find in many parts of the country. They have a lever action section, shotgun section, bolt action section and of course semi-rifle section. At a guess there is probably 1,000+ firearms on display. It is far and away my favorite shop and they back what they sell, new or used.

If you are willing to drive up to the northern part of the state then be sure to go to 'The Village Gun Store' in Whitefield. Stan and his wife are great and he has the best deals going. Sometimes he even does better by me than my PD purchase rate!!

I've spent a great deal of time and $$ with Stan. Wouldn't shop anywhere else at this point.

I second Whitefield, but also make a trip to Kittery trading post in Kittery Maine. As far as buying goes you will not be able to anyway being from California. Small game might be in season, but it is early for deer and bear.

Yeah i know i cant buy a gun, well i could if i had it shipped to a CA FFL. But i am looking for a place for my friend. He wants to get his first gun.






Only thing is i dont know if they will sell to him since he still has his CA license. So we might just be window shoping. He is mainly looking for a Rifle, level action, that he could hunt with on a small buget. I was thinking of a 30-30 Marlin or Henery

It's too bad you aren't closer to Rochester, you could get a Thompson/Center! You can't buy them directly from the factory, but there is a store right next door that sells them.

Riley's in Hooksett, Skip's in Bristol, Village Gun Store in Whitefield, Corey's in Littleton, Lewis Arms in Bow, Marshall's in Boscawen, Paugus Bay Sports in Laconia. . .just to name a few. . .Firing Line indoor ranges in Mancheter & Belmont, Pemi Fish & Game Club in Holderness, Dunbarton Sportsman Club in Dunbarton (hosts IDPA). . .

Oh yeah. . .forgot to mention SigSauer's based in Exeter & offers various shooting/training courses. TC & Ruger also have facilities in NH.

And may I also plug Ed Briands on Waltham Dr. ,Nashua NH....I know(ducks incomming)itsWAY south of Chester(on the Ma. border);but Ed's a great guy and could always use the biz....(I'm still trying to talk him into another dog,BTW)

Hey even if you are just window shopping a great vacation day in New England would be to hit as many shops as possible. These states are small, in a day you could hit a dozen or so shops in three states and get a good feel for the area and what is popular there and what is not.

A couple of more shops to consider would be Village Sport Shop in Lyndonville VT and Ricks Gun Shop in Burke VT. Rick is a really good guy and also has a nice archery pro shop and indoor video shooting gallery.

I would make a list of shops to hit. Either start in Northeast Vermont and head south and end in Kittery Maine or start in Kittery and head north.

Either way Kittery trading post is a must see. They have the best selection of used guns in the tri-state area. The prices are a little high, but you are not buying anyway so that does not matter. Also if you have a wife or girlfriend with you there is plenty of stuff for her to see in Kittery while you guys are lost in the trading post for three hrs. That is the fasted I have ever been able to get through the place anyway and I travel over 1000 miles to go twice a year

Yeah, Kittery is one of the few things I miss about living up there.
If the Weathervane is still across the street stop in for some good eats.
