I have only been following gun right laws for the last few years but I was wondering if things have been improving overall or getting worse. From what I can tell things are better then they were in the mid 90s. The AWB has sunset, more states have CCW permits, DC's gun ban got overturned.

How were things in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s in comparison? Are we climbing or slowly getting forced deeper into control?

Thanks!

Well

Things improved a lot after Clinton got handed his tail in '94 because it stopped erosion of rights at the Federal level and we had great improvements at the state level. In the past few months I sense that it has backslided a bit at the federal level because of VT and lack of interest from the imbicle-in-chief. At the state level, it looks good, mostly because of VT (what hurts at federal is helping among the more reasonable people at the state level) and momentum in our favor. Bloomburg is something to be worried about, but because of the Lawful Commerce in Arms Act and other reasons, he is really shoveling against the tide and is probably not going to do any great damage.

Ask again in two years.

Depends on how you look at things.

Things are demonstrably worse than they were 50, and especially 100 years ago. (Thirty years ago would probably be a toss-up, I'd guess.) While we have seen the sunset of the AWB and increased shall-issue firearm laws in the last 15 or so years, with things remaining mostly static otherwise, things could very quickly change again overnight with the signing of a single bill into law.

Overall, I'd say the empty rhetoric of the Brady Campaign has lost it's appeal for the most part, and that the predominant mindset in America is more positive towards firearm ownership than 10, 20, or 30 years ago. Politicians, however, are still obstinate banners.

Here in Ohio, we just repealed almost every gun law in the state.

We just improved the CCW law. It still needs a little work.

I'm pretty happy.

Virginia is pretty good and improving overall. NoVA (Northern Virginia) suckles at the teat of DC and something in that milk rots the brain so it's a constant low grade battle against the anti's and the managed.
