gun shops and ranges in southwest VA?

Hey all,

I'm from the Roanoke, VA, area and currently am located in Blacksburg where I'm going to school. I was just curious if there were any THR members from the region who could give me the names of some solid gun shops as well as places to shoot.

I currently shoot at the public national forest range just north of Blacksburg.

I've been to a couple gun shops in the area. Roanoke Firearms and Trader Jerry's both seem like solid places, and I've also been to Bryansteen's. Any others worth recommending?

Call Whitetail Outfitters at 381-9790 and talk to Darrell. He'll order whatever you want, and try hard to beat any other prices. I wouldn't by from anywhere else around here. His shop is on Route 8 out towards Riner. Should take you about 20-25 minutes from campus. -SC

Another vote for Darrell at Whitetail Outfitters.

The range in the national forest is the only public one I know of.

There used to be a hunt club that had a range. It was "Shawnee Hunt Club". I don't know if they are still around or not.

Took a buddy of mine to Roanoke Firearms today and he picked up a nice preowned Mossberg 500. Seems to be in great condition, and should work well for casual trap shooting (good way to blow off stress after the 7:45 AM exam!). Roanoke Firearms was very friendly and did an excellent job with the sale. Hopefully I can give them more business in the future.

I've never been to Trader Jerry's shop but from what I've seen at the gun shows, their prices are very good and the guys at the shows are very nice.
