I live around Albany NY and was wondering if anyone can recommend some gun stores in the area. I used google maps to find some but I was wondering if anyone had personal experience with any. In particular I am looking for something that has military surplus or C&R like old Mausers and Mosins (I'm a bit of a history buff). If you don't know of any do you know of any shops with good FFL transfer rates? By the way I am 15 so a C&R License to get them shipped to my house is out of the question unfortunately. Thanks for the help!

I don't know about the transfers, but B&J guns on central ave is a pretty good spot... They have a large inventory (don't know about the Mausers and Mosins). I'm sure if they don't have, they can get. Nice guys to deal with, too. They aren't gun shop snob types.

The Albany area, unfortunately, blows for guns. Transfers are expensive, shops are expensive, most shops carry almost all new stuff.

B&J is a bit overpriced on what they do carry, but they're okay-ish.

McGregors up in Queensbury is pretty good, the shop in Palatine Bridge is okay, and there are a few okay shops south of Albany.

Really, your best bet is to head west an hour to K&K Train and Hobby in Utica, they're large and usually everything's decently priced, and they have a good selection of surplus stuff.

Hello the camp. A site, AuctionArms, is NRA-affiliated or related or I just give NRA part of my sales to be a good guy. One of their links is ffl's in your Zip code. I don't think you have to register to look at the info; even so, it doesn't cost or hurt until you buy--the hurt comes when the sigoth sees the next cc statement.
I live in rural Cochise County, about 10 mi out of Sierra Vista. I could not believe my fortune when I plugged in my zip--and got an ffl about 4 mi from my house. He charges $20 for a transfer, and he's a good gun mechanic to boot.
'Spose that's enough brag; I suggest trying surrounding zips in your area. Maybe you'll hit paydirt. I know nada about NY, except Albany is 'upstate'--correct? NY and CA can go neck-and-neck as anti-2A; but northern CA is fairly decent in getting a CCW, according to cas pals I talk to. Could upstate harbor some similar gems? Best of luck. mm

Digressing, the named counties are difficult to be a firearm enthusiast in, the red counties are nigh- impossible, and the remaining counties are very reasonable, with local variance regarding the difficulty of obtaining a handgun license.

As someone who has several friends in the Albany area and having lived in NY about an hour east the past twelve years, I say with fair certainty there's no reasonably priced transfer dealers in the capital district.

Thanks for the help but the overall tone seems to be that Albany, most of NY for that matter blows for getting guns, not very surprising. I tried auction arms FFL locator and I might have gotten lucky. It says there is someone with an FFL who charges $15 for a transfer only 10 minutes away from my zip code but when I looked it up on google maps it just looked like someones house but that could be a mistake. It could just be someone who got an FFL to try to open a little shop because they like guns or it could be a mistake, I don't know but later I will call and find out.
