Should have asked this sooner but I'm in Indy the rest of the week, Castleton area. Any shops worth visiting in my off time? Also anyone know anything about the Central Indiana gun show this weekend at the National Gaurd Armory? I'll probably check it out since I may have Friday afternoon free.

Thanks for any feedback.

You just missed the big Indy 500 gun show at the fairgrounds by 2 weekends.
Which armory is the Central show going to be at? I've not been to that one.
The best shop in the Indianapolis area in my opinion is Plainfield Shooting Supplies. Go around the west side to I-465, take I-465 down to Washington Street. Take Wash St west about 5 or 6 miles to Plainfield, the shop will be in the same general location as Dicks' Sporting Goods. Bob, the owner of PSS is the best guy in town to deal with I've ever known.
The shop is on the north side of US40 (Wash St), so you'll be turning right to go into it.
Albros on the southside is also good, and as you're in the Castleton area, you could take a look in Gander Mountain, on 86th street east of Allisonville Road, north of Castleton Square shopping center.
Popguns out on East Washington Street at Post Road has an indoor range. I am a member there.

Definately stop out to Plainfield, I will give a strong second to that! Bob's a great guy and will give you a very honest price.

I've also had good luck over at Albros, they are pretty good folks, just a bit smalller shop.

Enjoy your stay!

The Central show is at Stout Field, National Guard Armory, 3912 W. Minnesota St. I’ll have to check out Plainfield Shooting Supplies.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Not much in the Castleton area other than Gander Mountain. There's a Dick's in the mall but as I remember it's not very good. Plainfield Shooting supplies is a great store, bought my first gun there. Pop Guns on the east side is nice but a bit pricey, although they do have an indoor pistol range. And whatever you do, avoid Don's Guns like the plague. I will never go back in that store!

Northwest side: Pop's Guns.

West side: 500 Guns, Plainfield Shooting Supply (Bob's)

Southwest side (Camby): Bradis

South side: Albro's

East side: Pop's

North: Gander Mountain

Downtown: as a kid I remember several great stores, the best being a pawn shop that was run by the most zealous pro-2nd advocate I have ever met. Don't think anything is around downtown anymore. :(

Ringer,

Unless, something has changed the show at Stout Field is Sat. and Sun. only.

Also, the Pops on the NW side no longer exists. The one on Post Rd is the only Pops in town now.
I forgot about Bradis. They have a decent selection. They aren't as good as PSS for trade in value offered however.

AK-NOW

Thanks, you are right it is only Sat and Sun, and it's not even this weekend, it is the end of April. Guess I looked at the schedule wrong.

P'field Shooting Supply is a good place to visit and Bob will work with you. Bradis isn't too far from there as well, probably about 5-6 miles as the crow flies. Another shop with a good rifle selection and some semi-custom pistols (Wilson and Nighthawks) is Elmore's, just south of Marion county on 135 south. The Holt road armory is located about a mile south of I-70, making it easy to get to as well.

Jspy, can you tell me more about the armory? is that just where the show is or is there actually a shop there? I work for Wabash Ford on Holt Rd, and I think its just right down the street...

Chris

IndyChris: The NG Armory is over by the old Stout Field airbase, just off of the Airport Expressway. Another landmark for it is proximity to the old Olin brass plant.

FWIW, it's a small show and seems to draw the same bunch of dealers every time. Most of the bigger local outfits that are regulars at the '1500' don't attend. Heavy on the cheesey knives and paraphenalia types, but you occasionally run across some interesting rarities on the private seller's tables.

IndyCris;
Sorry for the late comeback. Yes, the National Guard Armory is just down the road from you. It used to be a fairly decent show a few years ago, but seems nowadays its hardly worth the cost of admission ( at least compared to Indy 1500). You never know tho, when that one guy might have that one piece you've been looking for. Myself, I haven't been in over in a couple of years.

Holt Road National Guard Armory Indy Gun Show

GUN SHOW THIS WEEKEND SATURDAY AND SUNDAY at the National Guard Armory at HOLT ROAD, INDIANAPOLIS. THIS IS ALWAYS A GOOD SHOW, I have a couple tables reserved.
