Anybody build gun boxes or guncases that the better guns came in? Let's see images.

    What were they lined with?

What would be great is if Pelican and other top manufacturers made cases with distinct non-gun appearance.

Swing by a goodwill next time your in town and pick up a hard golf club case.

Add a goofy hat and pants and you’ll be totally incognito.

As much as I have heard some clubs cost, I imagine the high end stuff wouldn’t be any less of a target to theft but wouldn’t cause alarm to gunphobes.

Golf club case. LOL. Gun I'm thinking of looks more like:

I was thinking of something more like this. My capacitor on the table saw is down so I need to get that running. Then I need to go to school and use their bandsaw to cut the box in half.

I don't know if you're looking for a more decorative, felt type lining, but kaizen/closed cell foam is what I use.

This is the factory molded hard case for the Remington Model 7400. What are interesting are all the Remington-branded accessories that complete the set. These include the spare magazines, offset chamber cleaning brush, cleaning kit, folding knife (the sheath is behind the scope), and Zippo lighter (boxed, next to the sling). Of course, the ammo and the instruction booklet.

I agree. Possibly getting ready to move into an apartment soon and really don’t want people knowing what I’m taking in and out.

You can cut the box in two better with the tablesaw. Just set the depth to a little deeper than the thickness of the box panels.

The thing is, because of the price and quality of a Pelican (or similar) case, it would normally be used for something valuable, be it a gun or something else. So someone might steal it on general principles, not caring if it's necessarily a gun. You'd be better off disguising it in a cheap tool case. Same reason the gangsters (supposedly) carried their Thompsons in violin cases. (Although I doubt that story because the weight of a loaded Thompson is in no way comparable to that of a violin. An ordinary violin case would fall apart under the weight of a Thompson.)

I got this violin case from ebay. I had to basically gut the inside of the case, and install new reinforcements / dividers. The fit is perfect for the 100-round and 50-round drums. (The gun is a nonfiring reproduction made with original parts. Receiver by the late Doug Richardson.)

Not a big fan of hard cases due to the weight but there are times when you need that level of protection and this is my best/fanciest gun case. It does not get used too often but its does get used when needed.

Nice cases ! I have a case for long guns that i bought at walmart along time ago. It us much sturdier than the newer ones they offer. If im taking a few hand guns out i use one of these. Aluminum Framed Gun Carry Case Handgun Pistol Hard Box Gun Storage Case Bag Hot | eBay.
If anyone around the neighbor hood ask what i have. The answer is CD's. For long gun case it's paint ball. Our area has gone down hill with scum in the area.

That may not be the best idea either since guitars run the gamut of values as well and seemingly at the same proportion and overall value as guns.

This is perfect though if you want it to be very distinctly non-gun looking.

Exactly! Totally agree…firearms enthusiasts (who do not live on 5000 secluded acres) need a way to move to and from vehicles without attracting attention. A case with a big "Gibson" or "Hamer" stenciled on the side might not be that much better…since genuinely interested people might be interested in seeing a sweet guitar.

It is almost as if Pelican needs to shroud their high-quality cases in a fabric that breaks-up the hard rectangular outline and makes it appear more as a long clothing "duffle bag" to the casual observer? Neighbors will certainly not be interested in the clothes you are taking for the weekend and it maintains the great protection.

I've never had a need to disguise a gun case of any sorts. Not worried about my neighbor, I've seen his collection. He's not interested in anything I have LOL :)

Going to the local range I prefer smaller (single), and soft cases if I can.
If I am travelling to a hunt it may warrant a hard case or double rifle hard case if I am taking two rifles. Sometimes I take two cases, one for transport to my lodging and then one for to and from the hunting location if they are not the same. It all depends.

There are vendors of the lining fabrics out there--plain felt from JoAnne can suffice, but silicone-impregnated felt reacts less with firearms and gun oils.
I know folk who have used "silver fabric" to some good end (said fabric is treated to limit tarnishing of sterling silver).

Somewhere (of course I cannot find it now) online there's a cool How-To on making custom firearm cases. One of the details was to add thin upholstery foam at bearing and pressure points before adding the finish fabric.

Halliburton used to be the ‘steal me’ case. Pelican has taken the honor. If I am going to protect something - it will probably be in a Pelican case. That said - different cases for different jobs. A quick trip to the range, probably a soft case.

@mcb Larue has a similar set up! Good combination!

    Here's what I'm thinking of:

There's also a guy who builds a case for his Henry Big Boy and skilled as he is as a cabinet maker, he's no videographer or film editor.

I live in an apartment complex and use guitar cases to carry some of my guns to and fro.

I added some foam to an old messed up hard shell guitar case I had to carry my scoped .22LR
    IMG_20220801_141611.jpg
I can fit my 10/22 w/ or w/o scope in the case it came with in a soft shell case I brought from Amazon.
    IMG_20220801_141515.jpg
I throw my shotgun or 10/22 inside a gun case, and then put it into a Gretch guitar case.
    gretch bag.jpg

My PC9 I have in a Ridgid case.
    Rigid.jpg

I've thought about buying some of the gun cases that look like instrument cases but none of them really look like instrument cases or carry like instrument cases.
