guns with suppressors for hunting.

If I have a 308 with a sound suppressor on it can I legally use that gun for hunting if I remove the suppressor. I live in TX. Any help is appreciated.
 
Your rifle is not legally changed by adding the suppressor to it, so nothing is permanent. It doesn't matter if your rifle is a suppressor host or not; what DOES matter is if your state allows suppressed hunting, which isn't even what you're asking. You're good to go without the suppressor, and may be just fine even with it. Check your local laws. Otherwise, a suppressor host gun is just like any other, without the suppressor attached.
 
The suppressor is the regulated item, not the gun it is mounted on. The barrel could be also be threaded for a muzzle break, flash suprressor, etc. As long as there isn't a can on there while you're hunting, the state doesn't care.

Per Texas game laws, suppressors are prohibited for hunting game animals, but allowed for non-game animals. So if you are going hog hunting or coyote hunting, you are fine to leave the can on the rifle.

ETA: Texas hunting legal means and methods:
Game animals and game birds may be hunted with any legal firearm, EXCEPT:

white-tailed deer, mule deer, desert bighorn sheep, and pronghorn antelope may NOT be hunted with rimfire ammunition of any caliber.
shotguns are the only legal firearm that may be used to hunt Eastern turkey during the spring Eastern turkey season (see County Listing). Rifles and handguns may not be used to hunt Eastern turkey.
pellet guns and other air guns are NOT LEGAL.
fully automatic firearms are NOT LEGAL.
firearms equipped with silencers or sound-suppressing devices are NOT LEGAL.
a shotgun is the only legal firearm for hunting migratory game birds (see Definitions - Legal Shotgun).


Nongame Animals (Non-Protected): Any lawful firearm, pellet gun, or other air gun is legal.

Ok thanks guys i will talk to the game warden before I buy a suppressor. I may just put one on my next build.
