Found a site called www.showmeyourwound.com, which has all sorts of interesting (sometimes gruesome) accounts of injuries, complete with pictures. This link is to a case of a guy who shot himself in the abdomen with a .45 ACP from a Glock 21. Impressive wound after the doctors had finished cutting on him!

EDITED TO ADD: This is not for the squeamish! If you don't handle fairly gruesome pictures well, don't follow the link!

I was an Air Force Corpsman and have been an ER Nurse for many years.

That's what it looks like folks.

That's a huge incision for exploration of the path of the bullet.:(

Thanks Preacherman...

and I was just about to go to bed.

I wonder what the sunrise will look like...

Interesting stuff. Not being macho but it's not that disgusting. I guess I have some help coming over that. I skin and cut up rats on a regular basis. The smell is bad, everything else is fine.

People need to look at this.

I tend to force myself to look at gun shot wound pics just as a reminder of what kinda of destructive force I carry with me every day.

Its a safety thing I guess

You get kinda used to it after dressing out big game and other criders. But seeing people shot is not pleasent for me

A good remember for 4 rules-always

I have worked in the main OR. As stated above this is what it looks like. What you didn't see was the surgery...its a different picture.

As the Dr.'s Ns's and ST's can attest, its shot placement and luck. I have seen the .22 short kill and the survivors of 12 ga 00 and slugs. The guy whom was so depressed he used a full +P .357 under his chin-and live.

My girlfriend is currently pursuing the college credits needed to become an RN (registered nurse), and she wants to work in the emergency room as much as possible. The odd thing is, she's a lot more squemish than I am regarding blood and wounds. I'll never figure that one out.

I always get odd looks when I tell her to bring along a box of tampons when we go to the range, but (IIRC) they were originally designed for plugging up gunshot wounds and the design hasnt exactly changed much since then.

At my NRA basic pistol class, they instructed us 100 times to always clean your gun in a room where you have absolutely no ammunition. No way you can 'forget' to remove ammo from the gun if there is none in the room. Good safety rule, one that I have followed to date.

You can take a look at ogrish.com for some very gruesome details of wounds. BE FOREWARNED - ogrish is very graphic.

I agree it is a good thing to see things like this from time to time as a reminder of what can happen.
I looked around the rest of the website. :banghead: Should not have done that :banghead:

There is also a video called Deadly Effects: Wound Ballistics that has been around for about 15 years that has some very good information. It's not too graphic, but has some interesting incidents.

that isn't too bad...

I've got some polaroids of my gun shot wound from the hospital. I took a 9mm to my right side next to my gut, just right above my right "cheeks". I would post them but I was in my hospital gown, and well, you guy's probably would not want to see the rest of the pics. Irony of it is that is where I carry my 9mm in a IWB. "Never ever again":fire:

Funny thing is, the shot actually didn't hurt that much. I mean it hurted, and definatly didn't feel "natural". But it was going to the hospital that hurted the most! I wasn't even scared until I got to the ER. All I have to say is I would rather take another gun shot to a non lethal place than take half of the tubes and needles they shove into you in the ER while your strapped in having to endure it all. :what:

GRAPHIC! = Never forget what a bullet can do

I've been a Navy Hospital Corpsman, a Paramedic for the City & County of San Francisco, an OR Tech, an LVN, and a Deputy Coroner... Seen this sort of thing way too often.
Being shot will MESS YOU UP! If you fancy firearms, you need to be _constantly_ aware of the CONSEQUENCES of unsafe practices with those weapons. That great gaping cavity is a consequence of unsafe handeling of a handgun. You _really_ don't want to see what a shotgun wuold have done at close range:eek: Not pretty, but we need stuff like this to reenforce those dreary, repetetive Gun Safety Rules... And why we have them:mad:

Thanks for the reminder:)

If you can't remember to take the cartridge from the chamber, what difference does it make that there is ammo in the room you are in? I agree it pays to be uber careful when dealing with gun safety, but someone who doesn't clear their weapon in the first place won't be helped if they don't have any other ammo in the room. It only takes one.

a while back i was doing some browsing and came across a site that had tons of videos and pictures of deaths/executions. yes i am morbid, but oddly enough, i have never been able to find that site again.

i find the fragility of our bodies to be fascinating.
