A year or so ago I posted a thread about the circular keyed locks on Gun Vaults, and how they could be defeated with a ball point pen. At the time many people were trying to get in touch with the folks at Gun Vault, but they seemed to be... out of business?, ducking calls?, stalling?

I ended up paying a lock smith to put a different lock in mine, so I gave up following the issue. Lately I've seen ad's from Gun Vault again, so apparently they didn't go out of business. Has anybody had any success following through with them? Are they just selling the same old junk?

i don't know about gun vault, but stack on sent me replacement key locks for my cabinets. only took about 3 months to get them. wonder if those locks would fit your gun vaults?

Yes, at the time of the original post all the stack-on buyers were mentioning that they were getting good support from that company.

Gun Vault, on the other hand, was ignoring people. Now from what I can make out in their ads they are selling the same old junky round key locks, that can literally be picked in a few seconds with a plastic ball point pen body (note: I do not missuse the word "literally").

I take it they were just playing a waiting game. Now that this has blown over they are back to selling crap to the unsuspecting.

I had a Medeco lock put on my gun vault. But it cost me 60% of the cost of the original gun vault to do so.

Medeco on your Gunvault. You are not someone who takes half measures.

GunVault went out of business. Another company, Cannon Safe of California, acquired the name and product. They supposedly changed the lock.

I have two of the "old" models. I can pick regular locks, but hours of trying with Bic pens yielded no results. I am not too worried.

I'm not either. When I first heard of the "Kryptonite lock Bic Pen" thing way back, I went around and tried it out on my laptop cable lock and Kryptonite bike lock just to see how it worked. I got pretty good at it, I could get my laptop lock off in literally 1-2 seconds with a properly prepared Bic.

So when the batteries died in my Gunvault and I couldn't find the key, I said "No problem, same type of lock as the Kryptonite/Laptop lock, this'll be easy". Tried it for a LONG time, wore out several Bics. No luck. The diameter of the Gunvault lock is just a little bigger than the Kryptonites and laptop locks, and I just couldn't get it to work. I only got the Gunvault open when I found the key :).
