I recently purchased a H&K P7M8 for $600.00 because I have never shot one and I thought it was a good deal. Well the gun is really accurate, but I am not crazy about the squeeze handle.

Am I the only one that does not enjoy this pistol????

I am thinking of selling it to purchase a S&W 625 45 ACP revolver, but I have never shot one of them either and I hear the moon clips are a pain.

I could always keep the H&K for collector value or to say I have one, but I don't know.

What would you do????

I'm sure you will have many offers. I would be amoung them, if I were not rebuilding my reloading tools.

I'm also sure you realize you got quiet a deal on an M8.

Those guns are trash, not worth a thing. I'll buy it from you for $300, and I'm doing you a favor.

Kidding!!

Do not sell that HK. I have one and I understand the whole squeeze-cock strangeness thing. But I love it. That gun is a fantastically engineered weapon and they are getting harder and harder to find for a good price. Very collectable. Unless you really hate it, I say don't sell it.

Take it to the range a few more times and give yourself a chance to get used to it. My P7 was a bit stange the first time that I picked it up but now I absolutely love it and carry it every day. The 625 is a nice gun, but you are right, the clips are a pain even with the tool. If you have the coins, get them both. Keep in mind that if you dump the P7, you are not likely to find another for $600.00. besides, if the bad guy gets it away from you, there is a good chance he has no idea how to shoot you with it.

If you were in Maine I would offer to buy it from you, but it would be better for you and my wallet if you held onto it and just kept using it for a while. Maybe you'll grow into it, you probably will at least come to enjoy it's oddness.

I'm in the same boat you are, ghostrider. I bought a P7 at the end of February and I've can't get used to it whatsoever. As such, it's for sale down below.

They're not for everyone. I don't think I'll regret selling mine.

Ghostrider 23!

Good for you! The P7 is a truly neat system. It was designed for German cops as an ultimate attempt at a "keep it simple" system for its users. Most cops, here or there, are not shooters but LEOs first -- nothing terribly wrong with that.

The squeeze-cocking device is there for safety AND to make sure that less-experienced shooters simply hold on to the gun! I always enjoy introducing folks to defensive shooting using the P7.

Its only true limitation is heat build-up at the upper trigger guard under sustained fire. Of course, it's not designed for sustained fire. It's designed to permit a polizist to retreat and obtain/employ his/her MP-5!

Snaps of my '84-vintage PSP/P7 and its ('86) P9 Spannabzug big brother are included below.

The only sad part is that collectors have bid up the value of these things to such high levels that I hesitate to carry them for fear of losing 'em to an evidence locker! Both were purchased in '89: $300 for the PSP and $800 for the P9S.

Good shooting!

Nope. A lot of people really like them, but many others don't like the concept. Different strokes and all.

If I were you, and I didn't like it, I'd sell it. I happen to like P7s, but I've sold plenty of other guns that I didn't like. If it isn't for you I doubt you'll regret it.

Did you really get an M8, or is it a PSP? Is the magazine release located on the heel of the magazine well?

keep the P7m8. $600 was a steel. i got a new for 975 directly from HK. Saw a used one last week for 1475. It takes some getting used to but it is the most accurate 9mm I have shot. i shot everying from Sig 225/226, XD, Beretta , glock, Browning HP and most other popular 9mm. The 625 is great but not a P7M8

I would say try it out a couple of times. Play with it. If you still don't like it sell it at a profit.

I disagree. They can be used as a stand alone. I just wouldn't take it to the OK corral .

I'm with the others, I would hang onto the P7 as an investment if nothing else.
I've had a 625, and while it was a nice weapon and accurate as could be, the clips WERE a pain. Loading got to be a pain on any extended range session. I ended up getting rid of mine and haven't regretted that decision at all, but as this thread shows, what works for one doesn't mean it's that way for all. As always, if you can borrow or rent one first and actually give it a shot, you'll know better if it's for you.
Good luck!

P7 M8 I think

P7 M8 I think, the release is on the heal of the pistol. The box says Heckler & Koch GMBH. Nds 12/82 and the clip holds 8 rounds.

Betcha your P7 looks like this:

Basically you paid @ $600 what the going price for a "B" grade would be. "A" grades roughly 10% higher.

These are excellent Lower Saxony Police pistols that have been gone through by HK folks in Germany and rated according to INTERNAL wear. Two of my "A" grades came in "like new" condition, and the third was IMO unfired. I notice a lot of the "B" grade P7's pictured on the internet have some minor slide wear, but the folks who bought those say the internals were in excellent condition.

Here's the CDNN ad just to give you a clue. (This is for "A" grade's).

I would suggest you got your moneys worth and if you should decide to sell it you won't have any problem doing so.

I love my P7's.

Best Wishes,

Jesse

This is a bad time to sell P7 PSPs, though. I've yet to find someone from whom I'd even make back the money I spent, and I've got A-grades. Hold off for now, stick it in your gun safe, and check it out in a couple years. It'll take time to appreciate in value, but it will do so eventually.

TO find out what model you have, look at the left-side plastic gun grip.

If is says:
P7 - it is a P7/PSP
P7M8 - it is a P7M8
