I was looking at the red jacket firearms page mentioned in another thread and i saw a number of rifles that use H&K sites. Looks like something from a G3 or similar. Does any one have any experience with these? Do they hold zero since they are mounted on the dust cover over the receiver?

It looks like an interesting mod so I would like to hear from some one who has one or used one and tell give a little feedback on how well (or not) they work.

Thanks!

V.

p.s. Happy Thanksgiving!

The biggest concern that I would have would be that, it seems, every time you removed the dust cover you would have to re-zero.

For glass optics, this is a valid point.

The zero on irons is not so critical, especially in a general-purpose rifle.
Iron sights don't weigh much, and thusly, don't move much (relatively) during firing like glass optics do (this is why dust covered mounted scope rails are universally ixnayed for AKs).
You also have to take into account that the "big name 'smiths" only add these sights to Saigas, which have extra-thick dust covers that don't move or flex as much as other thinner dust covers.

Think about it: if every time you pulled the dust cover, the zero on your irons shifted several degrees one way or other, do you think Tromix, Red Jacket, Krebs and others would offer guns that way?
Also consider that they sells guns set up this way to the military/LEO community (and they're quite popular).

Thats a valid point Nalioth. I've just never seen these before so I thought I would ask. I have an unmolested Saiga that I've been sitting on and I'm thinking I finally found what I want to do with it.

1) People pay them to do this. There's money to be had.
2) Most people never bother zeroing (or checking zero) on AKs.
