I have a new VP9 with the optic mount capability but haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Love the interchangeable grip inserts and back strap in the Small size version; very comfortable and make it feel like a Hi-Power with a set of Pachmayrs on it! Also reminds me of my CZ P07 grip too!

I've been training with this model, along with an RM-06 RMR, and it's one of the fastest and best pointing pistols for me since my P7's. Been shooting and carrying RDS systems for three years now, can go back to irons on demand, but the RMR is basically cheating. It's the way forward. But you will need to train on the system.

The interchangeable grip panels really are a nice feature aren't they? I keep the larges right side and backstrap panels in, and the smallest on the left side. It gets me a nice hand filling grip that I can still wrap my finger tips around. It makes it a little weird if I'm shooting week handed or week hand only, but I had to do it for an enhanced carry permit class and I still shot faster than anyone there and with a 100% score.

The only thing I'd do differently on the grip is use the P30/HK45 grip texture rather than what they put on the VP9.

You can buy the grip panels seperately. They are usually about $10 each piece. You can even texture them your self with heat / soldering iron.

I was under the impression that the VP9 and P30L grip panels were not interchangeable. If I was wrong about that I'm totally replacing mine.

They are apparently not interchangeable but they are for sale for either pistol, but the ones I saw for $10 were for the VP series. The P30 panels are more like $20 to $30.
Yeah I’m actually a much bigger fan of the P30 stippling rather than the VP texture. Looks like I’m back to the soldering iron method if that’s what I want.

Dear HK,

We know you're not listening, but just in case you are, please make the gun everyone is waiting for: you know, the VP-9 with the long slide that is already optic ready. Many of us don't want to buy every evolutionary iteration it will take you to get to that point.

Thanks for listening, or not

I've been running my vp9 tactical (threaded barrel w/ night sights) for HD almost since the day I brought it home. It has been great although I agree about the grip texture. It could be better. The contours are a bit soft for me, I prefer something more like the CZ P07 but it will be a long time before a pistol comes along to replace this one.

I've considered buying replacement grip inserts from HKPro and stippling them.

I checked today and the grip panels fro the P30 vs. the VP9 are different. The backstrap piece is a bit different but, the side panels are very close; just the topedge is slightly lower and at a different angle. I find it strange that the P30 pieces are so much more expensive, about 3X as much. Green is VP9 vs Black is P30.

Y'know, it seems me and you often enjoy the ergonomics on the same pistols I've noticed. I've got zero polymer guns currently. My lightest being my CZ P01, and a Colt LW Commander.

I've long been eyeing the VP9's, I might have to just go rent one and wring it out.

More likely than not I'll just straight out buy a lightly used one and if it dosen't work for me sell it for the same price I paid. That's what I usually do anyways.

While I sympathize with the sentiment here, it seems to me that there is actually a pretty limited market for the long slide with optic cut, simply because the chief benefit of the long slide- longer sight radius- is obviated by the presence of a reflex sight. It's arguable that the sight extension HK recently introduced is actually a better solution, but that does add the cost of a threaded barrel to the package. One could argue that a compensated normal VP with a reflex sight is going to be a better performer for gun games than a longslide version.

But of course a longslide OR would be cool looking to many and bought by some.
