I have an option to buy an h&r revolver chambered in .32 s&w. What usefulness is this round. Does it have a purpose? I'm thinking about getting it but I don't know what i'd use it for.
If it was in decent condition I'd go for it, provided the price matched the condition. They haven't been made in at least 60 years in 32 S&W, the more recent ones were chambered in 32 S&W Long and later 32 H&R Magnum. I cast, load and shoot a lot of 32 S&W in Colt and S&W small frame revolvers and I find the little cartridge to be a lot of fun. For me it is better than 22 rim fire because I get to reload it.
Is it a top break? If so I would be a bit leary. The early ones were BP only, and don't react well to smokeless loads. I had the latch from one go zinging past my head once... Never again.
No sir just a plain 2" double action with swing out cylinder. It seems pretty tight and in fair condition except for some discoloration on one side of the cylinder, probably from sitting in a holster.
it's a real fun round to shoot, but pricey if you don't reload
a 32 S&W snubbie also makes for a great transition learning round between rimfire and hotter cartridges
especially so for folks with small hands
(milady's 1st "my centerfire" handgun, far from her last, but it was worth thrice the price for what purpose it served, still gets out of the gun safe once in a while for a newbie shooter, ours is an INA Brazilian swing out cylinder DA six shooter and handles S&W Long just fine, slightly smaller frame than a J)
shyftr1,
If it is a swing-out cylinder in .32 (6 shot) and an H&R then it is a Model 732 (733 if nickel plated) and was designed to handle the .32 S&W or .32 S&W LONG cartridge. It will handle any current factory loading in either of those cartridges, but NOT .32 H&R Magnum. The earliest 732s were merely stamped .32 S&W - but later ones are stamped .32 S&WL - all will chamber and handle the LONG.
MagTech (Brazil) makes a .32 S&W L SJHP 98 gr cartridge that has a bit better power ratings than most of the .32 ACP JHP offerings.
