Just bought an H&R 440 12 ga today. Does anyone have any history or interesting facts on this model? Thanks

I had one in 20ga. They were made in Japan (Miroku?) for H&R circa 1971-72. I worked part time at a gun shop that sold them. They were priced to match the inferior (at the time) Mossberg, and less than comparable Remington 870 (IMO).

Mine lacked a vent-rib or removable chokes, otherwise I’d likely still have it.
Light Aluminum reciever was best and worst feature. Extremely well made for the price point.

Mine retailed for $89.95. Sold out-the-door for $79.00+tax. I traded a wore out M500 Mossberg for mine! Got $50 credit for the Mossberg. Gunsmith ended up with it “for parts”.
