Recently obtained this nice HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON HANDY GUN single-shot .22rf S-L-LR, 12.5" bbl. Seller I obtained it from says the rear sight is an aftermarket replacement. I agree, since there is no wind adjustment mechanism in the hole intended for that purpose.

Because there were only 323 manufactured between 1931-1934, it's going to be difficult to learn what the original sight might even look like. I've located photos of various specimens but none concentrate on the rear sight.

If any reader has one with its original rear sight still aboard, I'd greatly appreciate a clear photo of what that sight looks like.

    Thanks in advance... THUMBUPSMILIE.jpg

Make sure that barrel is rifled before proceeding further. In my brief research discovered:

The handygun was a smooth bore singleshot shotgun in most cases and is an NFA item.

Dr. Rob, obviously you've run across the info that the Handy Gun was also made in .22rf (323 as I've stated) and unknown quantity of the even more rare 32/20. There is one up for auction right now online which is in a centerfire but NOT 32/20. Probably a rebarreled smoothbore due to the NFA restrictions.

Even I doubted its legality when I saw it advertised. Took a while but finally found all that "rifled-barrel" info had been hiding in plain sight in ALL of my reference books. Just didn't read far enough...

Here's another oddity to keep you amused. Where would you find listed the BATAVIA AUTOMATIC RIFLE? It's a VERY unusual .22rf pump. It was a real challenge for me.

    Looks like this:

One I have looks like this, and NO it is NOT a Savage, but that company was reason for its demise.
