I'll second the "don't call the cops" statement, but I'll go a bit further and say that although I'm glad you're safe and that it did sound like they were up to something, your arse would be in a sling mighty quickly if it ever came up for questioning. One of the elders at my church once said "I can't think of a situation where the introduction of a police officer could not make matters worse.". My advice is to just drop it and move on. You can't draw without clear evidence and you don't have it. I feel for your situation, really I am sympathetic here, but it just isn't going to help you unless you absolutely have to do it and that means unfortunately after you have been asked for your wallet and shoved, etc. 15 feet isn't gonna require that response and regardless how everyone feels about crooks, it's the law that you need to be concerned about. Asking for supportive opinions after the fact isn't going to clarify the situation, in fact not only would I have not reported it to the cops or the ABC store, I'd not have posted anything on the net about it. If you want to tip off the ABC clerk to weirdos for his future refernce, that's fine, but leave out the 1911 edition of the Tuesday Evening Post. You have the right to remain silent (use it), anything that you say (or write) may be used against you (and will be...). Sad but true.
