Now this is kind of new for me, as as friend of mine asked me to take his kids (2 boys) for trick ot treat. Now, here in Peru halloween is kind of ugly because most of the BG's usually go for a "walk" around the nice neighborhoods in order to steal from children or the people who open up their doors to give candy.

Now I have an ethical dillema: As Bg's start in crime younger every day, almost 20% of the robberies are performed by kid's known as "piranhas" because they are kids 13-14 yeras old that attack a bypasser in large groups , ending in the innocent bypasser really beaten up or sometimes really injered. I am actually scared of them bacuase in large groups everythung can be dangerous, but they are little kids and I would feel kind of sad about shooting them...I know that if I carry my usual handguns (Glock 25 and .380 hi cap makarov) I will have at least 28 round of decent firepower, but if cariied and mugged, they WILL be shot. Would any of you guys advice not carrying??

Maybe carrying a non-lethal toy ?? (Nightstick, .38spl with rubber bullets,etc??)

I will at least carry 2 extra mags (2 on belt + the 1 in the gun and 1 in the off-side tie-down) if I have to go out Halloween night. I think that you have an increased chance of mischief AND crime that night.

Maybe it's just me.

(I always hate it when some of the "trick-or-treaters" are taller than I am and they seem to be looking around nervously as if guilty or about to be guilty of something.) - and I am not worried about the harmless pranks.

I carry everywhere except where specifically prohibited by law. That saidâ„¢, I generally avoid situations where there's much chance of encountering criminals. I refuse to live in fear or hide at home, but if I have a choice between running an errand on the other side of town during the day and running it in the evening, I'll do it during the day.

Easier to avoid problems than solve them, I think.

now that's odd.. I was always taught that Halloween was brought to the US by the Irish in the 1800's... did y'all have a similar migration once upon a time?

WHile none of us would want to shoot a kid, or an adult for that matter, someone who is old enough to attack, beat and rob another is old enough to be shot. We're not talking about 12 year olds that are trying to pick a fight one on one, their using groups to attack the unsuspecting. Treat them no different than the 25 or 30 year old man that is 6'8" and coming after you. Only major difference is (at least in america) you're going to have the parents of each child suing you instead of just the family of the bad guy.

I voted No Way!! but in hindsight, if I were out with children walking down dark streets on Halloween -- maybe yes, I would carry something. It's not the children I'd fear, more someone out to use the holiday as a cover to get away with God knows what. At least I'd have something to protect all concerned other than a flashlight....

Halloween is two pistol night for sure.
I think I'll dress up like a cowboy and stroll around with the 44 Mag.;)

Open carry will keep the riff raff back, they'll be clearing you a path.:D

I've seen video of those "piranhas". I say carry, but go trick-or-treating as a baseball player. While a reasonable person would feel bad about shooting those kids, they have no mercy for their victims and I would have little qualm from taking a bat to them.

I would carry but I wouild also carry a less lethal weapon. Dress up yourself and go along with the little ones. I suggest a baseball player or golfer so you can have a usefull blunt instrument along with you.

I used to when I took my son to his mother's to trick or treat in east LA...one year, P7M8, another j-frame, another Glock 23.

I've got no stats to back it, but I always considered Halloween to be an evening that is ripe for home-invasion-type robberies.

What other night of the year do you open your door for anyone who rings, regardless of the fact they may be wearing masks! :what:

Wouldn't be without some home protection.

Cheers,
ChickenHawk

I will be packing when I take my kids trick or treating. I carry at all times. Because of the situation during this holiday though, I will be constantly reminding myself of the requirements for use of lethal force. I think that is all I will say on the matter.

Protect those kids. I like the cowboy and especially the baseball player ideas. Let watchers see that those children with you are not prey.

Yup - carry. Having helped some 10 year old save his candy bag from some young adult - early 20's, I know what can happen. I was 17 and dressed in drag and walking to a party that night. With all those abduction possibilities today, I'd carry just to stop one of those.

Thanks for all the imput..I guess I will just be the most heavily armed baseball player Peru has ever had!Maybe it will be a nice occasion for me to take out my new tanfoglio .38sa for the first time (it is due October 30th
