(Inspired by this thread: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=600564 )

The gun linked to from the above thread is a pre-charged airgun, but the FAQ about it points out that it can't be pumped by hand, because it requires a slow, powerful source of dry air.

OK -- it's an esoteric (well above $1000) airgun, and I guess it's not marketed to people who want one just for backyard plinking ;)

However, I remember reading in Mel Tappan's "Survival Guns" about quite powerful airguns (in the same general class as this one -- i.e. not carnival toys, and not firing 8oz shot 16 miles) being used by Korean peasants and farmers to capture game. That's not a new book, and Korea wasn't exactly covered by 5th generation wireless service at the time, so I am at least suspicious that the average peasant / farmer didn't have pre-charged airtanks to hand for refilling. Maybe they did, and the infrastructure for refilling airguns evolved with more complexity than I'm picturing.

But are there powerful airguns of this general class (biggish bullet, pre-charged) with a more forgiving charging system, such that the charging can be done by hand (or foot) pump? It would be give me a good incentive to use an exercise bike, if I knew I was also pumping up a rifle, to have some target shooting as a reward ;)

(Putting this in non-firearms weapons, though the above post was in Rifle Country; there seems a reasonable overlap ... )

Thanks for any insight --

I use an airarms 410 air rifle in the UK, and use a hand pump to get it to 200 atmospheres i.e. 3,000 psi.

I could use a divers cylinder, but the cost/travel is inconvenient,
so I opted for the pump, which could be used to charge such a cylinder as it has a built in water trap.

It takes about one minute to fit the pump, and charge my gun to 200 bars,
although the pump could put 250 bars in, but I'm not going to damage the seals by trying.
I'm sure there will be something similar in the US.

This give me about 80 shots with a 14.197 grain .22 caliber pellet.

I'm pretty sure you could get an adapter to fit the gun you mention.

I predator hunt with a SamYang 909 .45 that has been power tuned, and have used a hand pump almost exclusively to fill it for about four years now. Great gun! If you search my posts, you should find some quite a bit of info on this rifle.
