Handguns in .50 AE...

I know of the Desert Eagle in .50 AE. What other handguns are available in this caliber? Anything smaller?

I would like to see a gun in .50 AE no bigger than a full size USP. What about an N frame revolver in .50 AE?

What would the recoil be like on a .50 USP?

Well, the cartridge itself is pretty big, so that means guns that shoot it have to be pretty big.

All the .50AEs I've seen are big boys. Grizzly, AMT Automag, Desert Eagle.

As far as revolvers go, I've only seen custom conversions at websites, none IRL. Bowen Custom makes the Alaskan Survivalist, which is a Redhawk rechambered into a 5 shot .50.

I want one really bad!

(And I think a USP type gun would be downright unruly in .50AE. With the polymer frames, there's not alot of weight to absorb that recoil....bet the Ouch factor would be Very High.)

Freedom Arms chambers one of their revolvers in 50AE. USP wouldn't be able to handle the over all length. There have been some that talked of a shortened AE in a 1911. Don't know if anyone succeeded.

Althought it doesn't even as much energy as a .454 casual I still wouldn't want the .50 AE in anything smaller than my Desert Eagle. The recoil is only kept from being painful by the huge backstrap and massive weight of the pistol. If you want .50 AE in a pistol the size of a USP you only have 1 option, Contender.

I don't think a single shot is what you were looking for but that's what you've got for realistic options in that size.

If you want a powerful USP sized gun get the .45 USP or SOCOM and shoot .45 Super in it. You might want to upgrade the recoil spring to a heavier but HK told me that the USP and SOCOM were fine for .45 Super but it wore out the recoil spring more qucikly.

I realize a USP in .50 would be impractical to say the least, but I wish there was a gun (even one with ridiculous recoil) that was not much bigger in size than a USP (but would have to be much heavier).

I just like the idea of a relatively small gun with a .50 caliber bore. The Desert Eagle is just a bit too big for me!

It seems like it wouldn't be difficult at all to modify the new S&W X frame to fire .50 AE.

Your friends actually works? I had an AMT Automag V and it was a complete POS. The gun locked open after every round fired, the backstrap would rip skin off after firing only several rounds, lastly it was a pain to take down (even with the special AMT tool).

AMT only built several thousand AMT Vs, before the original owner of AMT passed away. I still think AMT stopped making them because they didn't work properly.

I was warned not to buy it, but did anyway......sold the gun for a nice loss 3 weeks later.

There's a local collector who has one and his is rock solid reliable. AMTs seem real spotty that way. If you find one used, it's usually because it's a lemon which doesn't help their reputation any.
