Hey all,

I decided to put a scope on my 22" New England Handirifle today. I had a Simmons Mag 4X12 scope. It seems like it would be alright for Coyote hunting. My question is, what twist is the handirifle?

I was at the range shooting about 75yrds using some Mil Surplus ammo which shoots awesome out of my 16" AR-15. The problem was, I seem to chase the Handirifle around for like 30 minutes. I would get on paper, then adjust the scope and then be worse off. The ammo is a 62 and 55 grain bullets. Is it the ammo or is my scope crap!

I was using a bench rest so I kept it pretty steady.

Thanks a bunch!

How to determine a barrel's twist rate....

Checking the twist rate is as easy as running a cleaning rod down the bore with a tight patch and jag on the the end, stop before you exit the bore, mark the rod with a little flag of tape wrapped around the rod at the breech or muzzle depending on which end you started, withdraw the rod slowly allowing the rod to rotate freely so the patch/jag follows the rifling. When the tape has rotated one full turn, measure from the tape to the breech/muzzle, that's the twist rate.

Mine is 1: 12.

At that twist, you may have trouble with 62gr. bullets. I would keep it to 55gr and less. Mine seems to really like 45gr bullets...

From your description, though, sounds more like scope mount problems.

Scope or Mount problems

Definately sounds like scope or mount problems.

Check your mount and rings first to make sure they are tight!

I retightened all the screws I had and went back to the range. I shot some cheap WWB .223 and it seemed to group pretty nice. I'm guessing something was loose!

Thanks for all the help guys!:D
