I reloaded 45/70 cases with 45gr H4895 powder for my Thompson Center Encore Pistol-15" barrel. The bullet was cast lead flat point 300gr. Using Winchester Large Rifle Primers.
After shooting 9 rounds to sight in scope, I noticed that the barrel had quite a bit of unburned powder in it. Just wondering if there is a better powder to use and one that leaves no unburned powder?
What are others using to reload for the 45/70? Any advice or comments are appreciated.
Thanking you in advance for your assistance.

I have used 4 powders in the 45-70, all faster than 4895.

For lead bullets @ Trapdoor pressures I like either H4198 or AA5744.
For light plinking leas loads Trail Boss is also an option.

For Levergun pressures and jacketed bullet I use mostly IMR3031.
