Happend at church yesterday.

The wife and I were visiting her sister over the weekend. She and her husband live in a little town west of the Twin Cities. On Sunday we attended church services with them and afterward the usual coffee and chit chat. My brother-in-law introduces me to a fellow and his son who had just the day before purchased the boy his first hunting rifle. So out to his truck we go in the church parking lot to take a look at the boy's new pride and joy. We are checking the scope out and the action on the rifle in clear view of everyone coming out of the church.

Now remember, this is the state where a group of churches are trying to ban this very thing because of our new carry law. Somehow this rifle out in the truck did not hinder my religious experience one bit as it seems to be doing to the complaining churches. As a matter of fact it was refreshing considering all the crying taking place by the anti gun zealots in the Twin Cities. I also later learned that the Pastor is an avid deer hunter. I have to tell you, I like that church.

Aaaah, a heartwarming story. Unfortunately, most of the church's around where I live are of the blissninny variety.

Not more than four months ago, I brought my Colt New Service to church to discuss making walnut grips for it -- several of the members who are woodworkers and I were admiring it when the priest walked over and joined in.

My friend and I teach an NRA safety class at our church. This is our second go round at this, first class was great. Pastor is USMC retarded er retired and has no problems with firearms. Being as we are near Camp Pendleton we have some of Uncle Sams Misguided Children that go to the church also, but they seem to be trained fairly well already.

About eight or ten years ago, the Austin American-Statesman did a Sunday special on the Catholic Church in Texas. Among the pictures they printed was one of circuit-riding priests from the 1880s -- when Texas was full of bandits and wild indians. These priests, called "Cavalry for Christ" were shown on horseback -- each with a Winchester rifle and a Colt revolver.

There are guys in my church that I go shooting and hunting with. I have a friend who is a missionary in Poland, who, a couple of months ago, was in the states on furlough. The weekend he visited our church, I took him to the range to shoot my Kimber (he has a Colt Gold Cup that his parents in Fla are holding for him). A couple of weeks ago, I got an email from him expressing his gratitude for me taking him shooting. He said it was the only time that he got any trigger time while he was in the states.

In Poland, he can only have a pellet gun. He has a Crossman 1911 that he practices with often. He is a good shot!

Our priest was an avid fisherman! I once took him to my favorite mountain stream and hooked him up with some prime brook and rainbow trout; real fat ones! I think I got a free pass to Heaven on that one!

I always liked the idea of a strong shepherd who, with the help of a lot of strong sheepdogs, help protect "their" flock. Belief in and actions promoting good triumphing over evil are positive role models for the adults of tomorrow.

I live about three blocks from one of the two churches involved in the law suit. I get the feeling they think since we are in a suburb that we are all "safe", and that no reasonable person should need a gun for defence.

Fact 1.) a couple of months ago the police were searching for a guy who had raped a woman, and murdered her boyfriend. This was ocurring about 1 mile from the "safe" church.

Fact 2.) a few years ago a level III sex offender moved into a house about 1 mile from the church. Fortunately he re-offended (gee what a surprise) and was put in jail again.

Fact 3.) a few years ago, less than a mile from the "safe" church, the woman who cuts my hair was chased around her car by some creep, after she had closed up shop for the night.

I'm sick to death of holier than thou tax deadbeats like this church trying to tell me I can't defend myself. Shame on them.

I grew up in Minnesota. There's a huge difference between "the Twin Cities" and "a little town West of the Twin Cities".

There are some liberal bastions outside of MSP, but generally, in rural MN, a deer rifle is not going to raise any eyebrows in a church parking lot.

During the whole "meet the priest" sessions I did with my wife prior to getting married, the priest found out I was a gun person. Turned out he enjoyed shooting a .22 rifle. Went on a range trip together. Picture a priest in shirt and collar blasting away with a Glock 9mm. Wish I had a picture of that.

Here in Utah, they decided that if a church registers with BCI they can ban guns. Unbeliveably, the Mormon church did so. I'm not LDS and don't agree with much of the religion. They do, however, have strong teachings on self-defense and a (recent) history of violent oppression. I guess the current leaders have forgotten all about that.
